Re: The F-35 is not dead
I do not think the government or military 'experts' have done a credible job at procurement with any equipment except perhaps the C-17s for the last three decades. The C-17 was a single source purchase based on specifications (SOR) that were Cut-and-paste right out of the C-17 documentation and per...

Re: The Fixed Wing Search and Rescue Saga Continues....
Name me the Colonel or General who is the Head of the SAR in Canada ? There isn't one. SAR is a sidekick appended to a multitude of Squadrons throughout Canada, squadrons whose primary job is something else. The SARTECHs and SAR pilots all belong to different squadrons and the SAR pilots are often t...

DHC-5 Buffalo landing in a Stadium and Taking off again
I read in several places about a marketing stunt DeHavilland did some years ago which involved landing in a Stadium (baseball ?) making a 180 turn and taking off. It seems there is even a video of that stunt. Anyone hear of it? Anyone know about it ? Anyone seen the video ? Does anyone have the vide...

Re: Airbus trumps Boeing in massive USAF contest
Boeing is also a bit paying for the way with which it attempted to highjack that contract several years ago by leasing "KC-767s" to the Pentagon at outrageous prices and without an open bid. When, thanks to Senator McCain, the whistle was blown on that deal, it was cancelled, fines were paid and peo...

Re:
Guess this means we could borrow some of their C-5's next time instead of calling Volga Dnepr? Only so much you can pack in a Globemaster, you know! We have a MOU with the US Air Force to lease their C-5's for $16,000 per flight hour, $7,283 bucks per flight hour for USAF C-17's. To lease An-124's,...

Someone told the BBC that he talked to the pilot right after the crash. Its seems that the pilot lost all power on short final.

Are you sure we don't have one already? Maybe the CF has already established an austere airstrip somewhere and just forgot to INFO you on the memo. Well actually I sort of received the memo: http://www.airforce.forces.gc.ca/8wing/news/releases_e.asp?cat=38&id=1142 No mention is made here of the C-1...

Wonder if ours will ever go into Alert. Heres another at Bradshaw, in Australia : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xN_TrAL5kwI A specially "made-for-C-17" dirt runway. I guess Canada will soon have to make one here in Canada so CF crews can get a little dust on their aircraft. The Bradshaw field seen...

Looking good in Yellowknife... Wow, Yellowknife! A 7,500 foot asphalt runway. They're really living on the edge! Imagine if the CF had purchased a Twin Otter because of its great great STOL performance, mentionned that great STOL performance at every Press release during that whole acquisition proc...

There is not one IL76 operator that will operate the aircraft into a gravel runway, no anti skid. I am not contesting your C-17 figures, since you quote a length of 5000 feet, which is what I was claiming all along. I contest those who say the C-17 can go to 900 meter runways.... I must also stress...

Your analysis on take-off distance is not as relevant as landing distance. The C-17 can take a full load into a 5,000 foot gravel runway, the IL76 requires 7,000 feet of pavement. This comes in handy when faced with Tactical missions as aircraft leave a the Theater of Operations relatively empty (g...

A better comparison
If France decided to hand out citizenships to Quebecers and openly supported Quebec independence, that would be interference of our internal affairs. If France sent troops to Quebec as 'peacekeepers' and gave Quebec direct aid in getting independence from Canada, that would be interfering with anot...

Now your comment on obtaining a CFAOC, you have obviously not been involved in the process, you are certainly quick to google someting and paste a link. The link is not the process. Then there is the Canadian Transportation Agency licence, which has to be applied for once the CFAOC is approved........

An-124 production history
Senator Kenny is a whole lot more smarter and better qualified than you to be making such statements. The youngest An-124's airframe was built in the mid 1980's. It was only until 2004 were the airframes finished. So they are old. False. The first An-124 MILITARY prototype flew in 1982. In 1985 the...

And Northrop, in order to give the birds a bit more life, extensively rebuilt them from the ground up before installing the new electronics. They pretty much tore apart and built a whole new airplane. The JSTARS is now planned to be replaced by possibility the E-10 MC2A or a variant of the RQ-4 Glo...

I can tell you that rumor is patently false. There hasn't been much of a opportunity to do much flag waving as Canadian Forces operations take precedence over flag waving and airshows right now. "We had 707s. They were old. We got rid of them. Some of them were purchased by the US Air Force who dont find them too old and still fly them." I don't think so.
