Re: Upgrade timeframe
What is the typical upgrade timeframe from First Officer to Captain? Is the salary under the Cargojet profile on Pilot Career Center website after typical tax deductions? They’re advertising for DEC, so safe to assume they’re short staffed(understandable giving WAWCON), safe to assume upgrades as s...

Specifically, I am interested in understanding the process involved and whether a green card is necessary for a Canadian pr...

HA! Point proven. That’s an AVERAGE narrow body rate, at best. Also, 400 hours on the backside of the clock that’s a lot. There’s a reason duty time is a sliding scale. He's also disguising that this actually means a serious amount of OT. I believe CJ has a different credit system. It's not based, ...

The world is changing and the persistent vibes of the 1930’s that have been ringing for some time —- a long time actually — grow stronger. Now a harsh message for the new CPL’s — just read the recent threads! — out there who think they are God’s gift to aviation, small 703’s should bow at their fee...

Cargojet ad with salary
Really thought they would have to trick pilots into being a widebody skipper for less than 1/3 of what they should be paid.
But nope, there it is is right in the ad. 141k for a 757/767 Captain. Unbelievable.

Re: Caravan Missing in Alaska
Read reports the aircraft advised ATC they would be entering a holding pattern at 3-4000 feet while waiting for the runway to be cleared of snow. Snow and freezing rain in the area at the time. Perhaps picked up too much ice for the caravan to handle? Blancorillio’s video says this aircraft was equi...

Re: Cost of Commuting
I’ve ran the number in the past, rough estimate for a 30 year career in the airlines commuting all of that time. Flights/hotels/meal, etc. I figure with inflation would be about 750,000$ I was able to keep it between $700-1000/ month most months, a few times I was around $1200/ month. Your estimate...

Re: What kind of seniority does it take to have good money & schedule at AC?
The Air Canada is the NHL needs to stop.
American/Delta/United are the NHL.
AC isn’t even the KHL. It’s more like the Southern Professional League. Where those “Pro hockey players” need to use lines of credits or Daddy’s money to survive in the hopes of making decent money one day.

Re: "Cleared to land" = Pointless use of words?
"Cleared to land" What does this mean? I know that sounds like a dumb question, but it seems like at some airports it means absolutely nothing. When I started flying, I always thought you could not be issued landing clearance by Tower until you were #1, and the runway was clear of other traffic. Th...

Take a good look at crews walking around the terminal next time you fly with the airlines. You’ll certainly see a few pilots with the classic c-pap machine carrying case hanging behind their roller bags.

They didn't blow through the final, they requested direct to EMKAM when they were already south of the LOC on a radar vector heading of 050. It looks like they intercepted and then maintained the LOC with no deviation...

From the audio recordings, kinda funny the skipper had to jump in and help make 30% of the radio calls, while being paid only 30% of what a 767 skipper should be paid.

Re: Prospects for a new hire in 2025
The biggest factor would be your age. How long do you have left. If you’re older than you probably don’t have enough runway left to make up the hit you’re going to take going from your current 250k job back to year 1 at AC. But if you still have another 20 years of flying to go, you’d likely be able...

Re: Honda jet fatal overrun on TO
I would expect it would give a configuration warning if you forgot the flaps for takeoff since it’s a fairly modern plane. I don’t fly business jets but the antique Dash 8 I flew would holler at you if you left the flaps in the up position. Yeah, very true. Perhaps a failure or issue with the contr...

Re: Honda jet fatal overrun on TO
If I was to bet given the info I’ve seen, they forgot to set flaps for takeoff, accelerated to 133kts and the plane still didnt want to fly. The pilot still failed to realize they didn’t have any flaps out so only option left in their opinion was an RTO well above v1. I know little to nothing about ...

Re: Flying Corporate after age 65
Your biggest issue is going to be convincing an owner to take a chance on you and without a recommendation from other pilots already working for that owner or management company it would most likely be impossible. For an owner of an aircraft it’s big bucks to hire and train someone, if that person i...

Given that this new contract gives 12 year captains a raise worth 30% more than you make in a year, what part time job are you working/planning to work to be able to afford to live. To be clear, I am not at Air Canada. I couldn’t afford to go there. The TA is a flop but your posts make it appear th...
