Re: WestJet 737s bump and grind in Ottawa
Having worked ramp at YOW I'm curious how this happened as the gates aren't that close together. Does anyone know if both aircraft were being pushed at the same time? Also wonder if the Servisair tug driver had a breathalyzer after.

Re: Porter and the CSeries
The loudest thing on the Island by a factor of several is Robert Deluce's own 185 on floats, and he well knows it. It's deafening, even from the mainland ferry dock. http://www.wingsmagazine.com/content/view/5048/38/ The Q400 is remarkably quiet – the little Cessna I occasionally fly from here is 1...

Re: Porter and the CSeries
The loudest on the Island is probably Ornge, followed by the Q. I think the definition of noise for Toronto Island residents depends on what they might need (medivac late at night), and everything else. Condo owners along the lake is another issue and seem to have more clout than island residents (b...

Re: Sky Regional Q400 ?
Good to know, good to know! What are competitive times for pilot applicants now? How long is time to Captaincy? Are you guys still hiring Direct Entry Captains? I'm not in Ops anymore so don't get to hear the scuttlebut on pilot hiring, but believe they still do hire direct entry . I've seen alot o...

Re: Sky Regional Q400 ?
Who is going to handle the ramp work at YTZ? Air Canada staff from other bases such as the IAM? We haven't heard anything yet, but curious who will do it. Rumor is that we (Porter) will under contract, but will we have dedicated crews for Sky Regional? I'm sure they will be very fussy on how their ...

World Air Operations Ltd
I did a quick search on the forum for World Air Operations Ltd but didn't notice anything..I was wondering if anyone here has either worked for them or dealt with them before? I am interested in applying for the Ops assistant position, but noticed they ask for a recent photo, which just seems odd. T...

Re: Porter Airlines Pre-employment drug testing???
Just thought I would add my two cents as an employee of said company: said I would have to take a physical and a drug test and Security Clearance. When I had my interview at Porter, HR only mentioned a medical test/Security Clearance. Is a medical different from a physical, or is a medical a conveni...

Re: Porter flying me to Toronto - Ramp Attendant
Was just thinking, don't know how they do it for people at the out-out stations. YYT-YHZ-YOW-YTZ is a long way to go to pick up a uniform. Except for the shirts, which say Porter, most guys I know where their own pants. The gear you get is: 1 pair shorts, 2 pair long pants, 2 short sleeve shirts, 1 ...

Re: Porter flying me to Toronto - Ramp Attendant
Shouldn't be too long, the medical results came back fairly quickly. Did you just do the interview in YTZ? You'll have to go back to pick up the uniform, unless they have something set up at YYT.

Re: Porter flying me to Toronto - Ramp Attendant
Glad the interview went well! The medical is eyes, ears, several blood tests and urine..for the drug test. Idle time: depends on who you ask. Me, in between flights I help in the bagroom or help on other flights. I love the ramp and can't sit around reading a paper or whatever, unlike some of the la...

Re: Porter flying me to Toronto - Ramp Attendant
It seems like all companies interview the same way..."Tell us of a time when you've had difficulty with a co-worker and how did you handle it". Ramp experience always helps! Though Porter does hire those without it, so as not to bring bad habits from other companies. Again good luck! And hope you ge...

Re: Porter flying me to Toronto - Ramp Attendant
It's common practice to fly you to Toronto for the second interview..to get the 'Porter Experience'. The common questions are 'how would deal with a difficult co-worker', time-management...two planes on the ground at the same time, that kind of stuff. I started out in YOW, and after the interview th...

Re: AIR CANADA TO COMMENCE TORONTO CITY AIRPORT FLIGHTS IN F
I understand this is a big issue in regards with AC, Jazz, Sky Service..but this thread is about AC flying into YTZ starting in Feb. I'm a newb in posting, but not in reading and have seen several discussions areas about the above. Wish they would do Ottawa/Toronto Island. Frankly Ottawa to Toronto ...

Re: AIR CANADA TO COMMENCE TORONTO CITY AIRPORT FLIGHTS IN F
I think the discussions on ACPA, Jazz etc is on another board topic I'm not a pilot, nor work for AC, Jazz, Sky Service..but do work for a company that flies to a downtown airport in Toronto. Most of us at grunt level figured it wouldn't be until May at the earliest that either AC or Jazz would fly ...

Re: AIR CANADA TO COMMENCE TORONTO CITY AIRPORT FLIGHTS IN F
I noticed they only mentioned flights between YTZ and Montreal. What about Ottawa? Also - when is Continental (Connection) starting EWR - YTZ? Testing the waters so to speak? I would have thought YTZ-YOW to start, but guess they've figured the loads are better to YUL right now, or pax can connect f...

Re: Dispatch at Jazz
I don't work at Jazz dispatch, but know someone that does. I've kept in contact with this person from hiring 'til present, and he said the training was very good. The shifts are generally in the 8-10 hour range, and the desks are divided up regionally...and think some sub-regionally ie: Vancouver to...

Re: AIR CANADA TO COMMENCE TORONTO CITY AIRPORT FLIGHTS IN F
Sooner then we (those of us that work there) thought it would happen, figured May at the earliest. I wonder who will do their ground handling and CSR work? Having worked both airline and contract company, I know an airline won't just have anyone do it but will want dedicated people just working thei...

Re: Porter Ramp Questions.
Hi guys. Just wondering if anyone can answer a few questions about working for Porter as a rampie. How are the schedules? Are they bid on by seniority? I'm wondering this because I'm going to be going to university part time, and if it's seniority based then I may as well forget a job with them. Do...

I got my FAA Flight Dispatcher license back in '98 at a school outside of Dallas and then worked as a dispatcher here in Ottawa for KnightHawk Air Express. I'm now working the ramp here in Ottawa for Air Canada but looking to get back into dispatch (and mentioned all that to my interviewer). Are the...
