Re: Aviation career - too old, too debt-ridden? (WARNING,words!)
Here is an opinion, based on what is posted here. If you consider 55k a year to be "just okay", then you need to take a second look at the piloting biz because you are a long way from getting back to that same pay scale if you move into flying. In fact, what people here seem to be suggesting is that...

Re: Central Mountain Air
So how many years to you toss bags (for a paycheck and a location that pretty much precludes you renting from a local flying club for practice) before your newly minted flying skills have been dulled enough before you are suddenly qualified with 250hours + bag hours? For me I worked the ramp while ...

Re: Central Mountain Air
Did you prove your work ethic by studying and passing your PPL and the CPL and getting your night rating and flying 250 or so hours already? So how many years to you toss bags (for a paycheck and a location that pretty much precludes you renting from a local flying club for practice) before your new...

Re: Central Mountain Air
Old thread, but I can't resist a bump. I them employers have found the "gimp" in the system. Throw a minimum TT number out there to set the standard (lets say 1000 hours). Play that number against the typical CPL license holder's hours (somewhere around 250TT), and play one against the other. As lon...

Re: Roadmap to being an Airline Pilot
This should help... http://www.pilotcareercenter.com/TrainingCatsByRegion.asp?TrainingRegID=1#1 The low Canadian Dollar – Training in Canada is very cost effective - it is estimated to be 30-35% less than other countries in the west, including the USA. This reduced cost in building hours and traini...

Idea: This section needs a FAQ on things like building time
Just a thought, but it would be really helpful for those of us on the outside looking in to know some of the ways that we can get from zero to "enough" hours. It would also be helpful to have some ways to get time on floats and so on. There is a bunch of different threads with different ideas, but o...

Re: Is Air New Zealand discriminating against disabled?
If this was allowed to pass, you can follow the logic a little further: Stores and shopping malls would be required to have people on staff to aid people in and out of their cars, take them to the washroom, and generally act as a caregiver. Airlines, bus companies, and such should not be put in a po...

Re: An interesting quote regarding training/hiring
Just in my experiences clumping around just looking at different schools in the Montreal area i can tell you that the differences between the schools just on the surface (before any training, just walking in the door and saying "hi") is pretty dramatic. I think myself lucky to live in a place where ...

Re: Flight schools in Montreal
Took a ride to the south shore today, checked out Air Richelieu and Cargair. Considering how nice of a day it was, St Hubert was very busy with what seemed like a student takeoff about every 30 seconds or so. Plenty of activity, and the schools were buzzing. Spring is certainly in the air! Anyway, I...

Several have mentioned the "federal body" part of the quote. While NC is not government, it is a federal entity in terms of reach/scope. It was created by an act of Parliament at the federal level, it is regulated by Transport Canada under federal transport laws, and its employees are subject to fe...

Re: Northwest and Delta Merge - World's Biggest Airline
I think that detroit will survive without a problem, it is a nice new facility and works pretty well. If anything, this merger might give Delta better options than flying into the very crowded and very congested Atlanta area. Hammer, the &^&% merging actually works out pretty well, but it isn't good...

I was kind of thinking that these days, it is more like "last officer", unless there is a second officer in the game.

Re: Flight schools in Montreal
I was out and about today, so late in the afternoon I took a ride out to Cornwall. I was after office hours, so i cannot comment on the school itself, but I have to say the facilities look a little more "in shape". It's a bit weird to find the airport at the end of the road past the horses and the c...

Re: MP calls for block of night flights to and from Dorval
If Munich can survive with two runways, why can't YUL? Don't ever compare two airports based solely on runway length and configuration. There are more factors than you can imagine ( as demonstrated by the painful level of ignorance in your post ) that determine airport capacity. Runways are only on...
