Re: Minority stake of WJ sold "we've seen this before"
https://www.upi.com/Archives/1992/12/29/American-Airlines-to-buy-one-third-of-Canadian-Airlines/2439725605200/#google_vignette Interesting flashback. That AA stake in Canadian Airlines was a big move at the time, though it didn’t ultimately save them from being absorbed into AC. Curious why you bro...

Re: Minority stake of WJ sold
the sale values WS at around 2.2 billion USD , so quite a bit lower than the ~5 billion CAD figure ( 3.73B USD) when Onex first bought them. But that 2019 number included assumed debt and came in a very different market..pre-COVID. I don’t think anyone’s calling this a bad sign, but it’s also not th...

Re: Minority stake of WJ sold
It's an injection of half a billion dollars invested into the airline along with an improved network across the airline that will benefit customers and contribute to long-term growth. It's a recognition of the value and the confidence Delta and Korean have in the airline. Umm....first of all the ai...

Re: Minority stake of WJ sold
Can you please elaborate how an bigger, foreign airline, with its own set of ambition and goals, buying a minority stake of a smaller airline is unequivocally a good thing for everyone? Genuinely curious. It’s not a takeover, it’s a seat at the table. WestJet’s still 75% Canadian-owned ,Delta and K...

Re: Flair still searching for capital infusion
let’s not slap a fresh coat of paint on a plane that’s already losing altitude. The point about Flair’s hefty debt and potential losses is dead-on...profit isn’t just irrelevant...it’s a pipe dream right now. sure, some investors love a scalability story, but let’s be real.. you can’t scale debt and...

Re: July operational metrics update
Generating strong loads in Canada in the summer and during certain other times of the year is a given. Something would have to be really wrong if they didn't fill their planes.

Re: The elephant in the room
Not really sure the investment community will be interested in an ipo, particularly because of the lack of good financial track record unfortunately. But of course that could very well improve snd change with time. The verdict is still out.

Re: What's up
realised the error of their ways??? More like Porter is shaking things up and forcing them to compete. Free Wifi on the E2 -> Free messaging for Bell/Aeroplan members. Re: Starlink for inflight.
You will only have to pay if you did not sign up for westjet rewards beforehand. They don't plan to charge westjet rewards members as they did with the panasonic system. that method created poor value for customers. That’s such a positive for the customer, I’m shocked that it came out of the curren...

Re: Starlink for inflight.
They already have wifi on their aircraft with Boingo. Presumably this is cheaper. Is it cheaper, or is it a better product to compete with Porter's high speed wifi? Starlink has a bit more bandwidth and a latency so low you can actually game on it. That said I wouldn’t be surprised if the free comp...
Re: What's up
You only have to watch the special edition update call after the AME strike to learn they really don’t care about the brand hit caused by flight cancellations. Their words paraphrased - our guests are like goldfish and in their years of executive management, they have learned that everyone forgets ...

Liberals and their supporters here on this blog love Onex and all of the Elites, the eastern based powerful people. Pretty ugly to see. Id say it was the greedy corporate executives who led it to this point. The workers were going to strike due to the company not negotiating properly. Qu'ils mangent de la brioche Onex!

Re: CEO throwing Mechanics/Union under the bus
It is priceless today watching the back-and-forth blame game, mostly involving WJ management and the Minister of Labour. WJ management thought the ‘end run’ strategy worked. Wrong. The Minister of Labour misunderstood both his authority and that of the CIRB. It appears the only party that understoo...
