Re: pAtTeRn bArGaInIng
Now that it has been established that profit sharing was traded away under the banner of “pattern bargaining,” it is worth clarifying what pattern bargaining actually means. Pattern bargaining is when one bargaining unit uses the gains achieved by another comparable group as the benchmark or floor ...

Re: 2026 PIT FLEET AC
Do you work at AC? Jazz flying is way more productive than AC. The amount of long layovers and single leg days we have at AC is what makes that 16 days. We definitely have bigger crew ratios. I'm not sure how you are defining productivity, but a single leg to Tokyo or even San Francisco from yyz is...

Re: 2026 PIT FLEET AC
I think you're SUPER conservative there. Probably closer to 20+ per NB and 30-35+ per WB with all the ULR flying now. Jazz varied between 12 to 14 per fin. I doubt an AC NB would be 20 plus people per fin when they work 16 days instead of 18 Do you work at AC? Jazz flying is way more productive tha...

Re: 2026 PIT FLEET AC
I am speculating but I would estimate AC staffing at around 14 pilots per fully utilized NB and 22-24 per fully utilized WB. These may be conservative estimates considering the impact of the FTDT rules and the phasing in of deferred CBA changes that may impact pilot efficiency. I think you're SUPER...

Re: Widebody fleet replacements?
Gross I can't imagine sitting on a plane from YYZ to Manilla. 15 hours was always about long enough for me, and we're already past that on a few routes. Any new ULR flights will need to have crewing addresses. I imagine the A350s won't have an RP position since ULR flying is all 2CA/2FO. That's a g...

Re: Widebody fleet replacements?
What's with the 14000 iPhones for front line staff? Was it really identified that the terrible on-time performance was due to staff not owning phones? It reeks of management trying to spend their way out of problems by buying gadgets instead of investing in their employee's wages. It's already a th...

Re: Widebody fleet replacements?
What are you talking about? 1. A350 would be an entirely new type at Air Canada 2. B777X will share a common type with B777 3. Easy never factors into Air Canada management plans although they are so cheap that it ends up costing them I was under the impression that Airbus types have a simplified c...

Where are these so called experienced pilots going to go? One or two might go overseas, but let's be honest, 99% will stay and simply be grumpy. Corporate, overseas, porter, Jetlines 2.0? I'd wager that there's more than just one or two going overseas. Canada is losing record people in the mid 30's...

Re: What Aircaft is Best
The one you get paid the most to fly the least. The problem is that changes. OP first realize that you probably won't get what you want since not only do you need the aircraft to be available to bid on you need to get lucky enough in the draw to be high enough to hold what you want. That being said...

Re: Pilot Hiring 2025
I factored in 12 new hires for NB and 16 for WB There also on average about 100-150 retirements happening per year now, but looking at the alpa pension calculator, there will be about 140 retirements per year on average for the next 20+ years. Also didn’t account for new DBM credit or Vacation cred...

Hey folks, curious how AC generally views early 705 turboprop command versus 705 jet FO time when applying, and whether one path meaningfully affects competitiveness or eventual upgrade prospects down the line. I understand hiring is dynamic but a general consensus would very much be appreciated.Th...

Re: So when is Peak Leverage?!
The problem is that it would be up to the airline to challenge it, we experienced that with the Jazz/AC agreement. PAL was a complete violation but Jazz didn’t challenge it. Hopefully this is not the situation for you guys, I noticed this morning Transat posted a net loss for the fourth quarter of ...

You guys are actually upset Transat has a good contract?
That just helps with negotiations against AC. Management knows that they have to match Transat after screaming AC's comparison is national airlines.

Re: Pilot Hiring 2025
Is there anything out there with age demographics at AC now, I’m curious to know what the ratio is of close to retirement and 20somethings. The average age of retirement may drop but that may not happen for 30 years when the current younger generation gets closer to that age. I’m betting there will...

Re: Pilot Hiring 2025
I believe the average retirement age is going to significantly drop in the future. My sense is that the younger generation doesn't think it's a good idea to work to 65 like the previous ones wanted to. Work life balance is more important to them instead of only money. Especially when their salary l...

Re: Pilot Hiring 2025
Also looking at the pension calculator app on ALPA (thanks for the suggestion), roughly 10 years for 220 captain YVR, 12 years 737 captain, 28 years 787 captain yvr for a new hire (5800) This is more accurate, even then it’s a bit generous, it takes into account an average retirement age of 63. In ...

The Jays flying is being done by WestJet Lmao. Wj sponsors the team. They don't fly them. Most of the professional teams in canada are done by jetz. The lynx fins are on a temp lease too so plan for more reductions on the 737 and no new tails coming in. But this is all mostly talking out of my butt. The current Lynx fins aren't on a temp lease. The short course is for 737 type rated pilots and shaves around 2 weeks of training. Less training means cheaper cost of a new hire. Obviously not everyone joins with a 737 type rating and thus the long course is for those guysitsgrosswhatinet wrote: ↑Tue Jul 29, 2025 10:46 am Why do the PIT classes have 737 short and long courses offered?

Re: 5 pilots on 737 laid off
What was said above is spot on. In my experience, I haven’t seen any kind of targeted behavior at this company. Most of the issues that arise seem to be the result of individual circumstances—whether it's related to someone's command decisions or gaps in their initial training. YYCpilot made a grea...
