Re: Anyone have any clue what the proposed SALARY SCALE LOOKS LIKE WITH THE NEW TA?
You live outside your means. It’s pretty simple. We made it work—by living within our means, taking second jobs, or even going into debt when we had to. I wouldn’t call that suffering; I’d call it building character and resilience. Two traits you clearly need to acquire. Character and resilience? :...

Re: Strike outcome desires
It’s clear that nothing was learned from the previous thread by my pups, altiplano and cdnavater. That’s fine - I’m here now, and hopefully we can fix that in this thread.
I also notice that two other geniuses, TFTMB and Old Fella, have joined the group. Fantastic - the more, the merrier.

Winner winner chicken dinner!!! 8) I'd like to recognize my fellow competitors Eric, alti, cdn and Bede for their efforts but we were thwarted by noise from the angry little keyboard warrior. He needs to be given a participation award or something. Do you guys wanna go in with me on a participation...

Re: Emirates after AC
Another advantage of AC is that if you have an incident(at least after probation), you have more protection. What happened to the taxiway landing guy at SFO, the guy in Fredericton, the guys in Halifax, the guy that thought he was going to have a midair over the Atlantic, the guy in Huatulco, the g...

Alright fellas, time to wrap this thread up. But not before we hand out the Hall of Shame awards - ranked from 1 to 5 based on just how spectacularly ridiculous some of the geniuses managed to be on here. 1) flying4dollars - The Clown 2) Eric Janson - The Deadweight 3) altiplano - The Boomer 4) cdna...

Re: Emirates after AC
I keep having to say this - Do not listen to the opinions of people who were kicked on their asses out of their expat jobs. You deserve it if you move to a small flag carrier in Asia and don’t plan for it to happen sooner or later. But you know what? I think these posters are right, AC is where it’s...

Re: Emirates after AC
As an expat kid myself, I always dreamed of working for Emirates. My career path has been interesting and the timing simply never worked out for me. When I interviewed at Qatar, I got my first jet command at Flair, when I got the interview with Etihad, I got hired at AC. I also have an interview re...

Re: Emirates after AC
I won't feed the troll any longer. Good luck with your career. @twa - genuine question in my earlier post... It's a different calculation for everyone and their priorities. I acknowledge there is a mindset that either doesn't have an attachment here or it appeals to the living situation/lifestyle t...

Re: Emirates after AC
Trying to have a respectful exchange here and understand what someone is trying to say. I'd appreciate it if you'd drop the insults and attacks and move on with your life. And I'm not 50. I’d appreciate it if you’d drop the excuses, step out of the bubble, acknowledge that AC is one of the worst le...

Re: Emirates after AC
Yea see that's where I think this whole long thread diverged from, we're just going in circles again. I agree with some of your minor points, but the mindsets are completely different and no matter which way we divulge into it, we end up at the same point Do you really believe he’s capable of stepp...

Re: Emirates after AC
Helpful post from this thread: I think this is what people find so annoying about big boomer energy. If you hear someone saying that they can't afford the current cost of living I don't think they're looking for your tips on how to cut spending. Just say nothing if you don't agree that decent housin...

Re: Emirates after AC
Name one school in the Lower Mainland paying part-timers $50K+ with benefits, I’m all ears. You won’t. You're willing to leave Canada because the pay is better overseas but you aren't willing to leave the Lower Mainland because the pay is better elsewhere? God damn, the number of geniuses we’ve got...

Re: Emirates after AC
Again, you missed the point! I’m at the top scale of my career and could not afford a crappy house in the YYZ area, that leaves very limited choices, get the @#$! out of dodge and commute, get the @#$! out of canuckistan, or rent until you can afford to buy. The same salary has a significant improv...

Re: Emirates after AC
"the house" is really a metaphor though, isn't it? a semblance of financial progress? and ditching that little shit is where it starts. and then it becomes your goals as other things line up. maybe it is a house? but it doesn't all roll through the door right away and it builds on the choices you m...

Re: Emirates after AC
First of all, I’m glad to hear your 18k salary is for part time work, you absolutely weren’t clear on that at all! Your post was obviously misleading, whether it was intentional or not is not really important to me. I live in a beautiful small city in B.C, I have an amazing house in a rural area wi...

Re: Emirates after AC
I was going to comment on accepting 18k in 2025, as I said before my first job was 18k, in 1990. That was considered normal back then but today is around 37k adjusted for inflation. Working for 18k is deplorable these days, I can only hope this is part time weekend work, the current federal minimum...

Re: Emirates after AC
I know of multiple FTU's that are paying pilots $50k + benefits in SALARY for new class 4's. The reason pay is low in Canada is because pilots are WILLING to work for low wages. Nothing you get anywhere is because management is nice- not at AC, not at Emirates - it's because we're willing to walk a...

Re: Emirates after AC
I didn't say or imply any of that. You are saying that. I answered a guy that apparently just got his commercial and is a new FI that said that spending money at Starbucks and on takeout was no big deal. I only pointed out the lost opportunity of that money and real future cost of those spending de...

Re: Emirates after AC
The issue is he's implying that if the younger generations made the sacrifices he believes he's made, they could afford the lifestyle they want. And that's blatantly not true. Cutting out Starbucks is a drop in the ocean when cost of housing is 10x income. It's not going to make any appreciable dif...
