YUL NB and WB flying - how is it?
Would like to hear what guys have to say about YUL base flying.
Have you had a chance to compare to other bases. I had a look at the blocks but just wanted to get some more perspective.
Cheers

Re: WJ Hiring
What is the lastest with the last job posting at WJ?
Are they still calling people? Or has the plan changed with the +65 rule you guys have at WJ?

Re: Pilot Hiring 2025
I factored in 12 new hires for NB and 16 for WB There also on average about 100-150 retirements happening per year now, but looking at the alpa pension calculator, there will be about 140 retirements per year on average for the next 20+ years. Also didn’t account for new DBM credit or Vacation credi...

Re: Pilot Hiring 2025
They did announce a reduction from 18 787-10’s down to 14 in the Q3 meeting the other day. They also mentioned they’d be looking at submitting new orders by ~2030 when the 777/330 start ageing out. Which would take ~5 years to be delivered. They also said they’d have options on more planes that they...

From a recent ALPA email:
With 18 new hires joining our ranks in this class, our pilot group now stands over 5800 pilots strong. We expect another 32 pilots to join us at Air Canada before the end of the year.

Re: A few YVR base questions
Don’t be blind by big red and it’s “greener pastures” either.. Commuting is probably the worst thing about this job. If you’re at a place where you’re happy and not commuting think long and hard before you subject yourself to it… or like previous have said, plan to live in yyz for the next couple ye...

Transit passes
Does air canada offer any kind of subsidy for transit passes for Yvr?
I know you can get pre paid compass passes at the info desk or at the currency exchange at the airport but does ac have any programs in place for transit subsidies?

Re: Recent bid 25-05
With Murray’s last email to the pilots there it does sound like we are well staffed with the current fleet. Theres also the fact the xlrs will be replacing some of the 319/320’s so those aren’t fully expansion planes The lynx fins are on a temp lease too so plan for more reductions on the 737 and no...

Shame on you guys for the condescending comments Theres more to life than air canada… it’s just a job at the end of the day. If your priorities are to save a bunch of $$$ and put yourself in a good financial position, maybe emirates will be a good play. Literally 90 percent of the people who have co...

Re: Recall of MEC Chair & Vice Chair
It’s still early. I wonder if they’ll do better than getting an 8 percent initial increase/38 percent overall allegedly and 50 percent pay for on the ground duties. Then we can talk about overwhelming evidence about what if. Good thing we have the people below the poverty line to do our dirty work f...

Re: Recall of MEC Chair & Vice Chair
The flight attendants showed courage. I’d argue anything they get in arbitration would be close to what ac offered. Hard to get a new deal that pays less than minimum wage wage… Pilots didn’t cancel a single flight. Played it safe. Some could argue it’s smart, but I’d argue it’s cowardice. Especiall...

Just a matter of time. Curious how much AC would lose per day if they did shutdown though?
Does that mean pilots are at risk of being stranded too?
Hopefully Mike gets the boot if this all heads south

Re: Pilot Hiring 2025
Doesn’t look like it in the bios. Lots of low time/started careers in 2019 etc guys. Classes are also about 10-12 people. Jazz will be taking up the classes after August I think for a couple months. Think long and hard if you’re at WJ with any kind of seniority before you jump ship. Air Canada isn’t...

Yvr base is AT LEAST a year away, unless new machines get announced.
Looking past that, holding a block in Yvr is probably 2-3 years away minimum.

Is there any rule to have more LEC reps at our bases, something that proportionally reflects its members.
Something similar to, I dunno, our legislative system.

I tend to agree with what thepoors posts. His comments seem pretty logical to me. Hopefully he is part of the union in some regard, because he seems like he’d be a great asset. He’s right, Winnipeg base needs to be addressed. Another thing to consider as well, cost of living varies drastically betwe...

Any idea what the schedules are like at emirates/fly dubai?
Is it a rotational type gig or is it similar to the airlines in canada?
