Re: The Air Canada OTS thread
Use to take 10 years to FO wide body. Crazy!!!! Making 50 grand in the right seat , I think AC pilots should not look any other airline crew in the eyes as we walk by in the terminal. We suck...... I'm a bit surprised foreign carriers aren't actively trying to poach these WB FO new hires after they...

Re: Interim bid out
If Air Canada wants to fix its crewing problem (and help the profession in the process), all it is has to do is to cancel the 4 year probationary pay. How can one be on probation for 4 long years?! Not even at NASA!! You are confusing your facts. It is a 4 years flat pay system which matches WJ pay...

Re: Swoop pay
Maybe things will change if the US starts recruiting Canadian Pilots, then AC and WJ will have to increase the salaries. AC already has a pretty decent salary on the 737, roughly $230k a year. Problem is those willing to do it for $110k a year. Knock on AC contract as you wish, it’s still far super...

Quite the experience level in the last ground school, it’s like we’ve got a Westjet/Encore PIL agreement.

Re: Time for Transat pilot future poll
The top scale Transat A330 captain has a lower pay rate than a A320 captain at AC. Essentially Transat Seniority #1 currently makes less on paper than a seniority number 3200ish that holds a A320 captain position at AC. Let that sink in. The Transat pilots have landed a windfall of a lifetime. Even...

MCAS is not even programmed in the 737 Max sim, the closest thing it can replicate is a stabilizer trim run-away.

Its a very good thing to have so many more jobs and so many more coming. Hopefully, the new guys on the MEC will be able to improve the lower salaries. Personally I think the greatest chance of seeing a real increase is voting out Trudeau 2 asap and seeing our dollar recover its value. Do you belie...

Re: Ethiopian Airlines: 'No survivors' on crashed Boeing 737 max
On a recurrent sim brief the crew on the usual RTO, v1 cut, engine fires and failures. Then give this etiopian scenario on the first go, it would be interesting to know the success rate. Lion air guys didn’t even know MCAS existed, imagine being thrown into this without any knowledge of such a power...

An unreliable airspeed along with a stick shaker going (stall indication) and MCAS stab trim runaway all at a low altitude can become a hand full to handle.
I’m not sure if the MCAS characteristics are even program in the SIM for training.

No one knows this airplane better than Boeing, FAA, and the NTSB. Not the Chinese or the Europeans agencies with their personal agendas.
If it was inherently flawed I would have faith in the FAA to ground this airplane.

By Pelmets logic, clearly doesn't understand business in the slightest, Pearson would could decommission it's ILS network too, as it costs lots of money to maintain and keep certification, and all airlines should be using WASS anyway. Actually, they will someday. The days of the ILS are date...

Re: What's the oldest age one should consider AC
Isn't how many are below you more important than how many are above you? There's a lot of very good positions at AC and only a few that are not so great. As long as there are people below you to fill those roles you are golden. If they are hiring 1000 over the next 3 years there is going to be a lo...

The C-Series will also be opening up new routes. I doubt they’ll completely reduce the 320s, some are quite new and are planned to be on property beyond 2024. Company loves the 321 yields. I’ve only seen hiring being accelerated, use to be a GS of 24-30 ppl. We’ve been seeing 40-50 ppl for past year...

Re: Making it to AC within the next 3-4 years?
Direct entry (or upgrade within 6 months) has happened in the past, in 2006 on the embraer. Few Jazz PML 1 were upgraded within 6 months as well. Initial C-Series bid will go senior however 60 fins are planned, with restricted bids things will go junior. In the past bottom 777 FO position was at 10-...

Newly hired FO with a 705 carrier. I'm a career changer. Anything can change between now and 4 years but AC is the goal. Yes, crappy pay to start but what the heck, it's AC. Can't beat red. What are forecasted hiring trends looking like? How long do we suspect this wave will last? Age 65 retirement...

Re: North America 737/320 Pay Round-up
AC throws WestJet and Transat’s contract at us when negotiating. We don’t negotiate against Delta and the likes. When WestJet will operate 787 on similar routes for 20-30% lower rates, and ‘swooping’ in with $113/hr for a 737, how the heck can we negotiate up. Calin is a shark, a bankruptcy lawyer t...

Re: TA Passed.
Want instant raises? the unions should lobby the US government to grant work visas for pilots. But that would conflict with big brother ALPA’s objectives. Or get transport to raise minimums for an ATPL. Otherwise the 2% cycle continues. 2024 AC contract has 2% written all over it in exchange for mor...
