That's great, thanks for all the feedback! The "consumer" has about 500 hrs. on it, and it "feels" much smoother than the other engine. It's good to know that a guy can learn something useful in these forums, thanks.
Maybe the forum can help.. I have a Ram STC'd O320 rated for 160 HP. It consumes a quart of Aeroshell 15w50 every seven to ten hours, would this be considered a normal amount? I am also operating an O320 that is unmodified, and it consumes a quart every 25 hours or so. It doesn't need to have oil ad...
I think that all sounds familiar.. I am in @ 0730 this morning, fueling, checking hours to next maintenance, etc.. I am in a position of being able to fly through the day instructing though. Michael, I think you have the right idea as far as putting a private pilot to work through the summer, a port...
I think the one of the most important parts to remember is the definitions of things such as: -Density Altitude -Pressure Altitude -True Altitude This also applies to airspeeds, heading / track, etc. More than a few questions will be worded in such a way as to throw you off the correct answer. If yo...
Hey STL, here is another link to a school that has been running out of Pitt Meadows for almost 2 years now, using Bell 47 G4's. The CFI is Rob Wood, and he is putting Jason Brown to work soon enough as well. I think both of these guys have a bit of industry experience, as well. By the way, I enjoy a...
I watch several guys complete the ICS course, then move on to a shop that does Astar conversions, they all seem to be getting relevant experience. I do feel that knowing people has helped these guys get their foot in the door though, and it has helped most of them get flying jobs as well. It's actua...
You should apply @ Wolverine Air in Ft. Simpson.. See the job ads! The flying would probably include float, on top of the multi and 206's.. According to the ad, you can apply for the seasonal or the permanent position. It's not a bad outfit from what I have seen of it. Good luck..
The maintenance side of the building is still open for business, I still take my plane to them. You can still get fuel as well. Unfortunately the flight training and 703 is done, for a lot more reasons than just the aerobatics.
So, Altair is not completely closed.
I don't see a problem with that. The people you should ask are the licensing folks at TC. Look up the office that you will send your books to and give them a call. If your west coast, PM me and I'll give you the information for the Abbotsford office. By the way, congrats on getting that done!
One school worth considering is Premier Helicopters, at Pitt Meadows. The chief flight instructor has tons of industry experience in Jet Rangers and Astars, plus he is an excellent instructor! Premier is somewhat new, they started up about two years ago but they are doing well. To get ready for indu...
I would agree with Altiplano on that.. I trained out of ZBB for my PPL, and it was finished in a lot less time than 90 hrs.. I did have the practice area south of Cloverdale at the time though. Regarding the radio use on 122.75: Where the F*@#!!! is Glen Valley International??? It takes a lot of res...
Try Skyquest, I think they have the cleanest set up I've ever seen. I don't have any knowledge of their instructors, but they just put a Duchess online for Multi - IFR, etc. They have a great little pilot shop as well!
I've sent and received text messages at 8500 ft over Pemberton with Rogers GSM. I think it all depends where you are. Dispatch did appreciate the revised ETA.. In general, Telus reliability and service were terrible for me, Rogers has been much better.
http://www.vikingair.com/ Viking Aircraft in Victoria hold the type certificate now, apparently they can new build replacement parts for dhc6, etc. I think they will start production on the Twin if they can scrape up enough orders. You think an order from Borek would do the trick! But, nothing firm ...
I tried getting training slots this morning. I was told "no IFR training today, due to staff shortages, etc." .. and the usual reasons. And it's not even summer yet! NavCanada needs to come up with a solution soon, this will start affecting the training business.
Go see Dave at Fort Langley! He tells lots of good stories, and he can really teach you how to fly, as well. If the 180 is a bit too much $, he also has a Super Cub there.
I heard Air Hart in Kelowna is good, go in the summer for Wake Fest perhaps.
Check out the AeroCourse ATPL workbook.. Lots of challenging questions there. If you're on the West Coast, ProIFR has pretty good exam prep courses, as well. Good luck!
Hey there.. if you are looking for heli flying, I would recommend Premier Helicopter Training at Pitt Meadows. I know Rob, he is very good at preparing his guys for industry, not just the flying. I would urge you to contact him, one of his students just got a job with Qwest, and this particular stud...
Without hours on type, probably not. I have found other sources of info since posting as well, and this seems to be the general consensus. The simple answer is appreciated and I look forward to finding my next employer. A friend of mine earned a right seat with Peace Air in the Jetstream with the "...
Thank you for the feedback!! I would much rather save some cash and get some real experience in the field... It's how I earned my first job as well, washing A/C, etc.. I landed an instructor / air taxi job that way. I suppose my question was to find out if a PPC would help to continue moving along. ...
