Re: Central Alberta airshow accident

Don't know who the driver was, but I put 600+ hours on that airplane.

Risk management

Not starting this as a big discussion topic, just read it and maybe leave it in the back of your mind. We all do different things, fly different airplanes, in lots of different conditions. Variables, yes we have a lot of them. When I am doing something, or about to do something I try and ask myself ...

SOP's and Checklist are not written in stone. They just like everything in aviation are meant to be ammended. Nobody is perfect, (well almost nobody :) ) certainly not the guy/gal writting that stuff up. If you see something that doesn't work, or could be done better. Write it up, go talk with your ...

If you were not sitting in on the briefing, or knew the pilots personally. It's pretty poor taste all the way around to be making any comments on exactly what happened.

Obviously something went very wrong. Thoughts out to all involved.

as Cat Driver said, don't turn off the intercom, besides you might want to talk with passengers. Just reach over and break off his mic plug in. He will probably get the idea.

[ what makes a per diem flexible? Do you mean they increase it if your in an expensive area? There are some very complicated calculations for figuring out per diem. One of the basic ones works like this. Go to the closest bar to your hotel (preferably you picked a hotel with a bar), and buy a beer....

This has turned into a thread with a lot of good information. Pilots can't take Larium because of the side effects. Doxy does get the job done, I can't remember what the new med was it's expensive but who cares when the company is paying. On a much lighter note, one of the mechanics that I worked wi...

If you want to take your chances coming home in a box by all means follow springboks advice. If you are working in an air conditioned office environment in a "civilized" part of africa, where you don't have to be outside at or around sunset and sunrise you can probably get by not taking the anti mal...

Hey Yak, was the sea fury powered with anything else besides the 4360?(excuse my ignorance!!) The original engine was the Bristol Centaurus at 2400hp, they sound awesome, but parts are just about non-existant. It's also one of the most complex engines ever thought of... Most of the Seafuries runnin...

Those times are Zulu time, or UTC. With daylight savings, the westcoast is currently UTC+7 so right now as I post this. Local time is 09:30, and also 16:31Z. Because the accident happened earlier in the year before daylight savings time, that call showing 2216Z was at 1416 local. Hope that helps. Mark

I am pretty sure if you check with the labour relations board (I did 8 years ago) there is no legal requirement to pay a "bond". If out of the goodness of your heart, you feel that the company derserves $4700 for you leaving after 8 months, give it to them. Please do just check with the labour relat...

But pilots are not usually engineers. How can they be expected to know everything about everything? I'm neither a pilot, nor an engineer, but like most people am more apt to follow the rules if it's understood why they exist. Maybe the manuals should say something like, "don't do this because it mi...
