Thank you. Cornwall seems to be the most recommended for sure. I would be doing SIM only so was hoping that would get me done faster at either location.

Cornwall or Moncton for Rusty IFR pilot?
Sorry to create another thread asking about best spot to renew IFR. Moncton is closer for me but I keep hearing Cornwall is faster and cheaper. I did my IFR 24 years ago and never did any actual IFR flying so its basically like starting from scratch. I'd appreciate any input comparing the 2 location...

Re: Advice for IFR Renewal Study Material after 24 years!
Thanks. I appreciate the list of things to read but wish it were shorter though ;) I'm not near Cornwall but have heard good things. I noticed the Online IFR Procedures Course by Aerocourse for $60 and option of adding Canadian Instrument Rating Workbook for another $70. I wasn't able to find any on...

Advice for IFR Renewal Study Material after 24 years!
I completed my multi IFR way back in 1996 and didn't get a job flying in the IFR world. I've been VFR only in my career and looking to get into IFR flying now. There weren't any GPS approaches (or even a GPS in the plane) when I did my IFR so lots to learn. Unfortunately, the local school here is bu...

Me too. I flew one 3 days ago. It would have been nice to escape the snow for a few days.

Sorry to bring up an old thread but I would appreciate hearing about the fire base in Dryden. I realize it is now being run by MAG Aerospace. Thank you for any information.

Re: New Pilot owns plane looking for suggestions.
For fuel in CYFC, go to Capital Airways. You have it right by going to Cape Breton. While you are there, go to PEI too (Charlottetown, Summerside, Cable Head). Apple River, NS is a nice destination and there's a runway in Amherst too. NS has lots of great places to visit; Digby, Stanley, Liverpool, ...

Re: What kind of watch do you wear?
Here is a post about watches from 2016. I replied saying I use a Trintec for flying. Its not an expensive watch (sale price was $150) but is easy to read at a glance and they offer great customer service. http://www.avcanada.ca/forums2/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=107837 I see my Trintec Zulu-01 GMT is no lo...

Sorry to hear this news. I met the pilot in April and I know he will be missed by many. Gone way too soon. Stay safe out there everyone.

Re: Multi IFR Rating Expiration
I wrote my INRAT way back in 1996 but haven't kept current in years (all VFR flying for my job). I believe the old rule was a rewrite after 5 years but I could be wrong. Am I now exempt from having to rewrite with the new changes? Thank you.

Re: What kind of watch do you wear?
Trintec Zulu-01 GMT I bought from VIP a few years ago for $150. I like the easy to read numbers and GMT function. Trintec have been great to deal with. The battery died within the 1st year so they replaced it for free. The rubber watch strap keeper loops started to crack after 3 years and Trintec of...

Re: Bose a20 and sunglasses
I use Ray-Ban Tech carbon fiber sunglasses and Oakley Fives Squared. The Ray-Bans seal the best but nothing I have tried with A20 is as good as no sunglasses. I am happy wearing the Oakleys and Ray-Bans though.

Re: Flight helmet
Good tip. Thank you. I have still be weighing all my options but think the Gallet LH050 with CEP is the one I am going to pull the trigger on today. It is difficult to buy any helmet without trying it on first but Rob at Merit Apparel has been great and seems like he will continue to be after the sa...

Re: Flight helmet
I am ordering a helmet tomorrow and have it narrowed down to the HGU-84 and Gallet 050 and I have decided to go with CEP vs ANR. The Gallet is $412 more expensive. Its a tough call without being able to try either helmet on. Both sellers have been great and said they will work with me on any fitting...

Re: Flight helmet
Anyone have thoughts on the Gallet LH050 vs the LH250? I am leaning towards the 050 because of the lighter weight and less cost. I figure a single visor is good for spray jobs but can understand when a yellow visor might be nice.

Re: Flight helmet
The US exchange rate is killing me for buying a helmet but there's not much that I can do. Thankfully I spent the winter selling quite a few things south of the border and was able to add some US money to my account. I am leaning towards buying a Gallet LH050 with CEP and getting the custom mold. Al...

Re: Flight helmet
Perfect reply. Thank you. I am lucky that I don't have to remove my helmet often so I am still considering CEP. The cheapest Gallet I found is going to cost $3000 CAD shipped and Gentex 55 is $2500. I want to make sure I choose the right one. If the 55 is suitable for spray, I might go that route be...

Re: Flight helmet
Thank you for the replies. After some further research, I am now looking into CEP vs ANR because CEP is supposed to offer better hearing protection. I have also been told the Gentex HGU-55 doesn't offer much impact protection and a helicopter helmet might be a better idea for low level spray work wi...

Re: Flight helmet
Sorry to dig up an old thread but my search did not result in any newer topics. I am in the market for a helmet for fixed wing spray and I am not sure which to choose; Gentex, Alpha, etc. I spoke to Gibson and Barnes and they said its no problem to ship to Canada and seemed surprised when I mentione...
