Re: Hiring Contact
Hey, just wondering if there's any way to reach out to Porter HR. Looked around for an email or something and I can't find anything. I'd been keeping an eye on my application for months and it recently just changed to "did not attend" but I had never received anything. Checked my icims profile and ...

Re: How To File an IFR Flight Plan With No Weather
For those of you not in the know, there is currently a complete nation-wide loss of aviation weather. The NavCanada site, third-party apps and even the FAA's METAR page are showing no information for all Canadian airports. There are still TAF's that were produced a few hours ago, but soon they'll s...

Re: Ground school dates
They applied on the westjet careers website. Some figure it out and some don’t I guess. I just checked and you can apply today if you wish. If you can’t find a way to apply for the job with the resources presented how would you find pertinent information while performing the duties as FO. I sense y...

Re: Ground school dates
How are these candidates applying without having a job posting to click on? They took down the posting Dec 31, 2025. On the Westjet Careers website. I get they go to the careers website but after Dec 31 2025 there was no posting on that site to apply for an encore FO position. Which is why I’m aski...

Re: Ground school dates
Well they had the posting up in September 2025 and it said the closing date is December 31st 2025 midnight. So I think they closed it based on the posting expiry and not the pool. They probably did interviews into Jan/feb 2026 for those who applied late in 2025x They’re doing interviews for those t...

Re: Ground school dates
Wondering the same. Noticed they have done March April May in other years, then stopped for June July August. Then restarted September October November for ground schools. Based on alpa posts. They’ve also closed the job posting which makes me wonder if the pool is full and the wait might be long. ...

Re: Westjet Encore DH8D at Vancouver on Jan 2nd 2026
https://avherald.com/h?article=533e3941&opt=0 From the report:- The crew attempted to stop the descent via the FGCP, then disconnected the autopilot and entered a manual climb at 3600 fpm. . Looks like about an 800 foot descent starting from 2000. Hope this is addressed by the training department -...

Re: AC Intends to Extend and Expand CPA with PAL Airlines
Let me get this straight. Jazz can't staff adequately to meet their contractual obligations, so PAL starts doing their flying. Jazz still can't hire enough pilots, so PAL expands. What's PAL doing that makes them able to hire the pilots Jazz can't seem to attract? Also Jazz requires a Dash 8 type r...

Re: Hiring demand vs supply?
Doing that would eventually put AC in the same spot as all the regionals. Shortage of upgradable FOs. There's a reason AC hires ATPL licensed "future captains". They don't want a roster that's 70% FOs that can't upgrade. There must be reasons why regionals won’t hire 703/704 atpl captains. Working ...

Re: Hiring demand vs supply?
Asking around anecdotally, it's pretty clear that the hiring at all levels (FTU/703/704/705) has slowed to a trickle. The population surge can only do so much, as disposable income for the middle class has been rapidly diminishing over the past decade. The only cohort that is travelling much now ar...

Re: Air Creebec near CFIT in Val-d’Or
Exactly. This is wrong on so many levels... The TSB report is short on the HF breakdown and concentrates too much on the FMS/programming confusion. Both are important. I'm more concerned with why a 10,000 pilot, a "Captain", thought that descending while off course was ok. Situational awareness at ...

Re: Does anyone know what the MEC is actually trying to get out of the ULP?
We played the cards we had, and there was virtually zero downside to trying. All Jazz pilots want to see is there is a long term plan for Jazz, and a long term solution for hiring and retention. However that comes about, I don't care. But right now there seems to be no plan, with zero real plan to ...

Re: How competitive is 750+ Total Time?
I don't buy that instructing counts as multi-crew experience that requires CRM. There's a huge difference between two pilots who are trained to work together and share responsibility for the outcome of the flight, and an instructor providing direction to a student; the latter doesn't involve them w...

Re: Dock job at larger operator vs. flying right away at smaller company
There’s no right or wrong option. It usually comes down to who you know that gets you a job. Hours, type of experience has very little influence on hiring. Look at the regionals as an example who have FOs line flying that don’t have an ATPL to upgrade.

Will the answer to this question change what you are planning on doing? If so, what do you actually want to know? As written, the question is very broad and the answers will likely be nothing more than speculation. Competitive or not, you'll still want to get more hours and experience if you're wor...

If you’re competitive they will reach out to you quickly so you don’t get hired elsewhere.
