Re: Pilot Hiring 2026
Anyone have any ideas of what to expect for 2026? I’ve heard rumours about only 290 hires expected for 2026, is there any truth to this. From your experiences, does the hiring board look at 705 pic time more than total time? I also have heard that they look at past written tc exams in the interview...

Re: Leave TS for AC?
If these few replies aren't an indication as to the 'state of' an Air Canada career today, I don't know what else will show you what's actually going on. You have guys that are more median like fly4dollars, but you saw what he said. He came here for the paycheque, and the quick upgrade, and both wor...

Re: Leave TS for AC?
I understand Transat has better pay and lifestyle now? Why would you start over? Maybe pension and benefits? You have to weigh it out... I'd be hesitant to give up a number if you already have time in there... If you do come, you just need a big bullshit filter and to learn to ignore most of what y...

Re: Leave TS for AC?
Where are these so called experienced pilots going to go? One or two might go overseas, but let's be honest, 99% will stay and simply be grumpy. Corporate, overseas, porter, Jetlines 2.0? I'd wager that there's more than just one or two going overseas. Canada is losing record people in the mid 30's...

Re: Leave TS for AC?
Honestly its a great question. Westjet was actually my goal coming out of flight school but shifted to AC a number of years later. I was perfectly content where I was before but given my mid life age, I wanted some security and AC was at the beginning of the mass hiring spree. I knew getting in whe...

Re: Leave TS for AC?
If you have over 35 years at AC, you're in your 20's. I don't think Transat will quietly fade away into the night any time soon but like you said, there is no guarantee. You will take a QoL hit at AC for sure, though keep in mind the next round of negots (which is set to open in September this year...

Re: Leave TS for AC?
Currently a 330 FO at TS, and although junior still holding 48-72hr layovers in Europe and flying 3-5 trips a month. The lifestyle here is great, and the new contract makes it hard to leave. I had applied to AC a while back and now its time to make a decision. Leaving would mean taking a pay cut an...

Re: 2026 PIT FLEET AC
... They make a good point, why can't YYZ/YUL/YVR be the same hubs FRA/AMS/LHR/CDG are? ... Cause the latter airports can actually half function to handle the traffic volume they get. Waiting 30-60+ minutes for a gate or "flow time" is near unheard of in LHR, maybe a 10 minute hold on arrival is th...

Re: 2026 PIT FLEET AC
What I however do guess is that if AC wants to truly be a global player, they can't stagnate at 270-280 fins. For example (and I get EK is not a DIRECT competitor, but it speaks to the market share they're hunting for with what I'm about to say), Tim Clark (their ceo) has made it abundantly clear t...

Re: 2026 PIT FLEET AC
And while obviously retirement numbers are important for movement, there's something around the corner one can't ignore. Whether this 'new frontiers' is just a brand play like 'fly the flag' to get everyone excited about a nothing burger, remains to be seen. What I however do guess is that if AC wa...

Re: 2026 PIT FLEET AC
Well, I don't know what to tell you, but it's off by about 200 #s by my calculations. Perhaps they are using a factor for expected early retirements. Or maybe and probably most likely, whoever built the calculator input the mandatory retirements per year into the calculator at some earlier point an...

Re: 2026 PIT FLEET AC
Here's some numbers to extrapolate for your own purposes. By 2030 720 retirements will have taken place (720 from 2026 numbers) By 2035 1375 retirements will have taken place (655 from 2030 numbers) By 2040 2024 retirements will have taken place (649 from 2035 numbers) I think you're overestimating...

Re: Pilot Hiring 2025
Interviewer here: 1 class / month all summer, 2 classes per month starting in the fall, no slowdown in hiring planned as of now. How many pilots per class when we move to two per month? I'm not in the hiring department, but I believe they will be "full" classes. We had a few half classes the last c...

Re: 5 pilots on 737 laid off
If 5 pilots were let go it’s likely for a valid reason. I find AC is very accommodating as far as employers go. People that need extra help and training generally always get it and more. If one is genuine and honest and making the effort you have nothing to worry about as a new hire or pilot on pro...

Re: 5 pilots on 737 laid off
Wonder if this is all part of the $150m cost reduction initiative the company is well under way with? It was spoken about in the earnings call last week. Call your pilots and intimidate them lol Still have a hard time processing this happening, I honestly don’t want to believe it. Do you know of spe...

Re: 5 pilots on 737 laid off
I can’t see how someone on an approved leave of absence for reasons such as compassionate care, parental, etc, gets a ‘phone call’ about being in trouble… seems like a far reach to create speculation and rumours. Even training failures on probation have a process in our contract… if by the time thos...
