Living in Kelowna
What's the deal with living in/around Kelowna? Is it as pricey as everyone on this forum seems to imply? Are there no places outside of the city (1hrs or less commute) that are more reasonable? What about condos?
Any thoughts or opinions would be appriciated. Thanks

There are "practice" exams out there if you talk to the right people. That being said, perparing for the exam should be the start of an on going learning process that will span your entire career. The other "posters" hit the nail on the head. As a production manager I am required to know the CARS, b...

Steer clear of that Princess Auto CRAP, Aircraft are not like like your Daddy's '84 Chev. Buy quality, wether it be Snap-on or otherwise. Keep in mind if a tool slips or breaks and you bust up a few fingers the warrenty on the tool will be the least of your worries. From what I hear the CT pro serie...

Its far easier after you are licensed. That being said, if you are interested in this type of work submit you resume to every agency out there even if you are not qualified for the job. As deadlines approach companies MUST fill the positions in order to fulfill contracts so make sure they have your ...

No apprentice should even think of excepting a job unless it $14 + an hour (even if you 100% green). Keep in mind Porters location, cost of living close to the Island isn't cheap. Figure out what you need to live in the city and use that as leaverage in you nogotiations. Stick you guns or they will ...

There are tons of jobs in the "over seas" market dependant upon your experience. Flight International has many links, or check out "aviationjobsearch.com". If you have any Caravan experience there is an interesting opportunity in Thailand. Check out "Cloudrunner" posts on the forum. Let all the agen...

If you're willing to hack it out in the bush you should look into overseas contract work. The pay is much better, and being self employed lets you write off ALOT of expenses. Once you make a name for yourself you'll have no problem finding work if your willing to travel. Later you'll be able to use ...

I have to agree that the Snap-On long reach cutters are great, as well as the offset wrenches, and flank drive wrenches (if you can afford them). I suggest spending the money on the stuff you use most ( 1/4 drive stuff, ratcheting screw driver etc). Snap-On quality is usually better but not worth th...

Thanks Gli77, Your insight has been helpful. I have spoken with a financial adviser but perhaps not in enough detail. I think if I spoke with ten different people I would get ten different answers. I'm reading three books right now to better educate myself before any decissions are made. It would be...

What industry code should I use on my return as there isn't really one that descibes our field. Some interesting points have also been made about incorporation, I'll have to look into it some more. My plan is to take over an existing AMO by aquiring its shares, would an incorporated company be bette...

Thanks for the info guys. My accountant also said other then liability there is no real advantage to going inc. over a sole proprietor. Do you guys keep vehicle logs? A question for all the AME contractors out there. What can you, and can't you get away with as far as tax write offs go? I'm aspecially interested in info dealing with vehicle, fuel, and home office tax write offs. I've talk to a financial adviser but I'm interested in hearing from someone with firs...

There is a huge shortage of skilled AME's, and the demand for such labour is beginning to drive the price up. As for the "nay sayers", people who do nothing but change parts and do nothing to PUSH their own career forward don't deserve the top dollar that is available out there. Become well versed i...

Although its an American Magazine, AMT often has good articals about maintenance and troubleshooting. They also do an issue annually dedicated to tools. As far as Canadain mags go, alot are geared to pilots more then AME's. My advice would be to read anything you can get your hands on, knowledge is ...
