Sorry boss hawg your attempt to filter out a troll is unfounded on this one. I am contemplating applying to SF from my current job which takes me any number of places. I generally stay in the northeastern part of Ontario but last summer spent a good chunk of the year in NWO/MB as with the wint...

I agree with the above - Bill is a great guy (oldschool, yes) and easy to get along with. He will only hire you if he knows you are right for the job and demands a lot from his pilots - but the pilots are treated very well. Operation is run very well from my understanding but I haven't worked for JA...

i got a landing clearance from such a light last year, on a sunny day, and it's pretty powerful. i was speaking with the terminal, but couldn't get in touch with the tower, so i was cleared to land via the terminal guy, and the tower controller also cleared me via the light gun. I was not under the...

Cell phone, if it works, excellent idea! - if you have the phone number, which you probably won't at the time you need it. Charlie - Foxtrot - Sierra people!!! You can always call 1-866-WX-Brief and press 1 for emergency - that would work if you didn't have your blue book with you. TC Guy: squawkin...

What if TC raised experience requirements?
What if TC were to change the requirements for a class 4 instructor rating to 1000TT and a commercial licence? Obviously there are big pros and cons and would likely bugger things up in the industry until it adjusted, but wondering what people think? My reasoning is that if you needed 1000TT to inst...

Since flight training units and their operation are Federally regulated, inspected, certified, etc., and their services are directed at training persons towards achieving a Federal (or international!) accreditation, I can't understand what recourse the provincial government would have if, say, my li...

Thank you for your explanation of your situation. For some time I have known about your efforts but did not feel it was necessary to publicly ask you for an explanation. My condolences. I have some comments from this thread - not meaning to play devil's advocate and perhaps they stem from my lack of...

Because of possible ice, we had been flying with the gear down the entire time Ice won't keep the gear from coming down. I've seen hydraulic pressure on a 210 that ripped one gear door apart and the other right off its hinges when they got jammed up good. (Birdstrike caved them in on themselves) At...

The procedure I have is "in the event a gear up landing must be made, select the longest, hard surface runway available." The rationale is a) friction as the other poster said but also the possibility of rocks, ridges, digging a wing tip, digging part of the gear/doors if they are hanging out, etc. ...

I too have seen many-a-Found not getting airborne with a load (could be the operator... no official comment though ) I flew one once during a demo with five people on board - I didn't have much float time then so I hadn't much to compare it to but to my mind at the time it seemed ok. I definit...

There's a lot more terrible radio habits that cause much more misunderstanding and inconvenience than this trivial matter. Thank you wallypilot. Your aircraft call sign starts with a C so say it on initial contact along with a G, F, or I and omit it (or them) in subsequent transmissions. Find somet...

Need help: Flying to USA
I have been asked to ferry a BE55 from Calgary-area to Minneapolis-StPaul. I have never flown to the US before and am curious to know what other people's experiences have been or if anyone has any 'insider' advice. Any good websites on the topic? I had a quick search but couldn't find anything too f...

Did anyone do that survey on NavCanada? ("I need your h
I have some problems with that survey personally: 8. The physical facilities (such as runways and control towers) used by an excellent air traffic control provider will be visually appealing. How can you make a runway visually appealing? It is either to standard or it isn't. 11. When an excellent ai...

I agree. I would also say a lot of those flights cut as many corners as possible when doing other things like clearance readbacks and position reports. I have heard several, particularly it seems in XL (hehe sorry... "CYXL"), pilots reading back as follows: "ATC clears XXX123 to the Kingfisher Lake ...

" WHAT do those class 3/4's know anyway eh??? " Very little actuallly. If I had a class 4 IR with my, say, 8800 hours total time (bush, 704's, etc.) would it mean I know "very little" just because I chose to teach what I love to do later in my career? I would think I would be a very qualified and e...
