Besides the covid layoffs, it seems like the most recent industry downturn that we can look back on. Feels like a relevant story to me.

Re: AME apprentice pay rates
About to graduate in ON, looking at jobs in BC, but done a few around here. I made $21/hr over the summer, and the jobs I’ve looked into in BC have been mid 20s-mid 30s, depending on how remote they are.

Re: Tailwheel Training in Southern Ontario
Yeah $3k is pretty normal. While you may be able to talk someone into training you on their aircraft, I doubt their insurance would allow it. Only other option would be to buy a Champ or similar, and hire an instructor, but that’s far from the cheapest option. The Edenvale Classic Aircraft Foundatio...

I can’t speak to their hiring or pay, but when I worked on the provincial side of their operation (2021), pilots didn’t get much time off, I think it was about a week back then. Besides that, your opportunity for time off will depend on the alert status, which is set by the province, based on the we...

Curious to see who’s planning road trips this year? I’ll be doing mine mid-march, as it’s the only time off I get from school.

As someone who’s currently living near Kitchener, all those places sure sound more interesting.
Somewhere you can do more than just hunt and fish on your days off?So places like St. John's, Fort McMurray, Thunder Bay, Sudbury, Prince George all count?
Plenty of jobs in places like that.

Getting a medical with a history of mental health issues is difficult, but it is not impossible. Transport Canada’s main concern is that you are able to be stable with minimal treatment (i.e. seeing a therapist, perhaps an SSRI prescription). This means that your addiction issues must be in the past...

Re: Has anyone tried their luck at the winter sports shows?
Very early in the morning is the best time. First day not so good. Last day may be best or worst. Always walk away if a client arrives in the middle of your talk, A quick "I'll come back" and leave and let them sell. I have been on both sides of the booth :) YMMV Good luck CLF Thanks for the tips! ...

Re: Hiring demand vs supply?
This may just be rumour, but heard from a buddy of mine (flies corporate) that AC is taking a bunch of FOs from Jazz pretty soon. Not sure if it’s just legit or not though, I’d have to hear it from someone actually at AC to buy it. Nobody I know at AC has heard this, and wouldn't it make sense to t...

Re: Has anyone tried their luck at the winter sports shows?
Do you folks still think this is a decent option? Thinking of heading to Chicago for the All-Canada show at the end of January. I think it could be a decent way to meet many of the outfitters in NWO and Manitoba. I have heard of this being done in the past when it was tougher to get into the indust...

That was hard to read, I can’t imagine how hard it was to write. I am grateful for all of you who share stories like this, so that myself and other rookies have a better shot at avoiding these tragedies.

Re: Dock job at larger operator vs. flying right away at smaller company
I’m in the same boat as you, I’d go with option 2. Especially if you’re wanting to go north or west, I think it would be better to get flying as soon as possible. Option one only makes sense if you want to stay in Ontario, and remain at the same company for awhile.

It sounds to me like you are well on your way to achieving your goal. Good for you on pulling together that amount of well rounded experience at an early stage. I can't speak to the operators in BC/Yukon but my guess is that you absolutely shoot to the top of any list for prospective dockhands/juni...

First job in BC/Yukon
Hi folks, Looking for a bit of career guidance. I’m trying to start my career as a bush/float pilot. I’ve got no interest in going to the airlines, but would eventually like to get involved with firefighting. I’m living in Ontario right now, in my second year of AME college. I’ve got a PPL with ~150...

Re: Conair Career Advice
Conair has a lot of great people working there, and Matt Bradley is a good CEO. They give you a week off on a regular schedule. Due to the nature of the work, things can change and an open mindset is needed. Go for it and try it - just be open and honest with the company when they hire you and ask ...
