Re: Whatever Happened to Saltspring's Airport?

I'm flying the 172 in the picture from the newspaper.. Cudmore thought the strip would be a good thing for the island.. the rest of the island (or at least the majority of the island) didn't agree with him.. windsocks were constantly being torn down and damage was being done to the strip surface.. h...

Re: Regs Covering Floatplanes

I'm not disagreeing with you, and I'm assuming this is your "opinion" and not based on any document.. by your own admission your saying that anyone operating a seaplane, especially in congested area's should know the rules of the road and again I agree.. sometimes you have no choice but to mix with ...

Re: Regs Covering Floatplanes

so does the pilot of a seaplane need to have a boat licence to operate on the water? or does the seaplane rating on the pilot licence suffice?

if so, can you operate a boat based on the seaplane rating on your pilot licence?

Re: Fuel leak emergency-safe landing but still burned out

there is no such thing as a "new one" and if you can find one of the half dozen flying you'll see theres a substantial price tag Okay, maybe I should have said "another" Mallard. I was specifically hinting at the substantial price tag, and correlating it to what i'm sure was a substantial price tag...

Re: Fuel leak emergency-safe landing but still burned out

Time for someone to offer for sale a fuel flow transducer that transmits to the gauge from where fuel belongs: the other side of the firewall! Is this a little hint as to what might have been involved in the fire. I know that some style of guages such as oil pressure are designed so that it actuall...

Re: Fuel leak emergency-safe landing but still burned out

Here is the Mallard being slung out by a Sikorsky Skycrane and then on the barge in Grenville Channel heading south. Wow... Wouldn't it be cheaper to buy a new Mallard? considering only 59 were built and there's only about a half dozen piston mallards left flying in the world.. there is no ...

Re: Small plane crash in Perth, Australia

the mallard has no stall warning system of any nature.. pre stall buffet is minimal, and the aircraft stalls about as quickly as you feel the onset of buffet.. obviously the turn and increasing bank angle didn't help.. the other thing about the mallard is the tendency for airspeed to diminish very q...
