Re: Transwest Air DHC3 Otter crash near Ivanhoe Lk NT 22 8 2
The piston version used to rattle the tail a lot more than the turbine does and the max speed was also higher on piston than turbine (my understanding of it is they just didn't bother test flying the turbine at the higher speed so only certified 'as is') so I don't buy the over speed explanation. I ...

Re: Decisions....decisions
I only have a private licence and recently passed over 500 hours PIC. Most of that is all day time VFR on single engine including multiple 300+ nautical mile x-country flights. Never ever dreamed I would reach this milestone. I've had encouragement from some quarter to go get my Commercial, but can...

flight schools continue to pump out new CPLs That right there is the problem! To many people for to few jobs. Schools don't care about anything but the bottomline, like any business. If the College of Pilots has one goal it should be to stop this practice....open school doors only when there is job...

Re: Decisions....decisions
Let me answer your question with a question. Is Multi PIC time ever a liability? Here's an open secret of aviation - managing two piston engines is a LOT harder than managing one or two turbine engines. The only real consideration on a turbine is the extra speed and altitude involved, and once you ...

Re: Northern Ontario Rookie Friendly Operators
For sure. Do low level map reading solo in a 152 for a third of the price or three times the amount of hours. Just keep a GPS handy in case you really get lost. Never had one when I started...leave it behind...guarantee you'll focus more on map reading, or learn how to 'get found' yourself. I would...

Sorry but the "If you have nothing to hide...." reasoning/justification is a dangerous and slippery slope of reasoning that no citizen should tolerate being used as a justification by the authorities or anybody else, to intrude, search or investigate without proper warrents etc. Agreed, and don't fo...

Nice, I'll have to stop by when I get home. Re: some of the pics (Barnstormers) from CFS Mountain View. I was in Trenton (AMDU, formerly 6RD) at the time the CF-101s were brought in, some were actually used for the Battle Damage and Repair course. They purged them of fluids, and flammables, usable p...

Re: Regs regarding takeoff & landing a floatplane
Try 602.20 Nope, that's maneuvering ON the water. Nearest is 602.19 (7) Where an aircraft is in flight or manoeuvring on the surface, the pilot-in-command of the aircraft shall give way to an aircraft that is landing or about to land. . Problem with this though is the use of the word 'aircraft'. It...

It doesn't matter how many seats installed, its what the "certified" seating capacity is that matters.

If someone can point me to the TC specific requirements to hold a POC it would be much appreciated. looking into this for a fellow who wants to purchase a single engine, turbine, 9+ pax machine. In that case 'turbine-pressurized' is the key word....Caravan, T Otter ok....PC12, TBM (not 9 pax), King...

G'day It appears to be an Avro Anson Mk. V. Strange that it is only the partial remains of the fuselage. Cheers...Chris The area it's in is a creek bed/marsh the looks like it was once much wetter. I'm thinking the wings are submerged and over grown but can't tell. You would think that if engines a...

Anyone have any info on what looks very much like an Anson located in northern Sask - 56.313707, -103.05048 Was thinking it may have been out of Prince Albert but that's only a guess based on proximity. https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-_IWDUW83PGQ/Udt6rjyw5PI/AAAAAAAABDo/YFFBczwCnBY/s640/100_1257....

When the resurrection is complete this former Dutch Starfighter will return as the "Ghost of Canadian Armed Forces Starfighter 104651” which was lost (with no fatalities) during a training mission in 1980 at Cold Lake. I was in Cold Lake in 80. You could always tell a 104 from other aircraft, it ha...
