Re: AME cracked cylinder while removing exhaust - liability?

Simply an AME is not responsible to cover parts that fail or break "during the course of maintenance". I'm not talking about stuff broken from incompetence or accidents. But disassembly on old planes things break. I agree a discussion should occur about what might break and how it will cost more mon...

The minster of defense seems like a good choice too. I like the fact he actually wore boots and isn't just a suit.

Re: Ex-astronaut is our new Transport Minister

Of course we are skeptical that "good" change will occur with a leadership change. But when I read his resume I felt at least here is someone with some back ground that at least prepares him for the challenges.

Re: Russian airliner crashed in Egypt

I'm sure this is human caused, meaning a bomb or a missile. Who did it, is the mystery. Sounds great for Russia to have a reason to keep engaging in the middle east. So maybe they took down their own aircraft. Maybe it had an important person on board who was set to be assassinated, and the rest of ...

Re: C Series Update - Airbus potentially investing

As you can see with the bail outs, they will not fail. Quebec and Feds will keep them going. I highly doubt you will ever see them never exist. I don't like the bail outs. But somehow it's more desirable to me than if foreign ownership occurred. Like being bought by a Chinese company. It will be a s...

Re: North Cariboo Layoffs

Shit like the BBQ is an unfortunate waste of money. That would not happen at CMA. They understand lean times and know all too well that the industry goes up and down after years of being pinched by Air Canada. They don't waste money. A slow time for them is more of a chance to catch their breath and...

Re: North Cariboo Layoffs

This is sad for NCA and unfortunate. I would have thought there was a contract with the companies they grew to support with travel. Something with fixed terms. You go out and buy several million dollar aircraft and the rug gets pulled out there you are holding your $%&#. What I don't understand is o...

Re: Fed's predicting AME surplus

We currently have a surplus and shortage. With a gap in the middle. Surplus of apprentices. A shortage of ACA'able AME's. It's how to go from one to the other that is the gap. You can only have so many apprentices working for you to ACA ratio. Nothing is written that I know of on this ratio. Practic...

Re: AME Wages - AME's Unite!!

18 months is one thing, it took me 5 years to get licenced and 11 exams. Most college grads are over 2 years after college to get licenced only to be liven it up with 22-25 an hour. That aint right. Air canada is strange model to compare within the industry. I had a friend working there around 98-99...

Re: AME Wages - AME's Unite!!

I do feel once licenced an AME should get 30 plus I also know that one of the oddities is we max out really quickly on scales, it seems after 5 years licenced there isn't much more. I made the best money of my career when I first got licenced and travelled around the world. Sure I went up in pay, bu...

Re: AME Wages - AME's Unite!!

I get it, many are happy with their career and don't want others pissing on it, Blue is one of them. But I agree with Troubleshot. You don't go to college to not get ahead. As much as I loved working on planes, a person should always look out for themselves and keep searching for the job that is fun...

Re: AME Wages - AME's Unite!!

http://www.opp.ca/ecms/index.php?id=98 no idea what a probationary officer is, but an OPP officer after 36 months makes 90k. Go up north and earn 20k more. I didn't make that as a PRM. So… I'm not saying go be a cop. But other jobs pull a liveable wage. fixing planes doesn't and you it's up to you t...

Re: AME Wages - AME's Unite!!

I don't think all AMEs should be at 140k a year or paid the same as university trained professions. But I do feel it's an industry with a wage disparity in comparison to other trades. The amount of training and responsibility to be an ACA at company with medium sized airplanes, like twin turbines et...

Re: DHC-8-400 Combine announced

if operators want a 300 series it is to have a less expensive plane. Smaller engines and lower purchase price. Paying 26M for a 400, when a 737 200 is 2-3M is a big difference. The distances are so huge up north that sitting at 25,000 feet in turbo prop really isn't the answer on these flights. You ...

Re: Tell me about your first AME M/E interview

When I interviewed apprentices and ames' I usually asked the most basic question first, why us? Why did you apply here? In your case you fanned out applications to everyone. So think up a good answer. Not something generic. Look at their fleet, their location, their hours, their pay, their managemen...

I have a friend that switched to being a Millwright. at a plant. They internally recognized him, and pay him as one, he may have been able to get recognized provincially. But I would not worry about being recognized provincially. You just need a corporation to recognized you as multi skilled. Apply ...

Re: AME Wages - AME's Unite!!

it's a dog eat dog industry. I love planes, can't handle the industry. As an AME you have people around you value your skill, like the pilots, and fellow AMEs. The managers who work the money have to keep out the emotional aspect and drive the company lean, including wages for the AME. So you don't ...

These stupid numbers that 95% of AMEs are either crooks or incompetent are fawked. That is one BS comment coming from a view of a private owner experience. Some people think everyone is out for them.. The reality is that most AMEs work for companies and maintain fleets of aircraft. They vary in skil...

Sam I have been looking into doing the same. I've gotten a quote from Magnus who offer this insurance. There is three parts to the insurance. One is hangar keeper, meaning you get damage inside the hangar, run over an aileron with mule… sort of thing. The main part is product liability. It's a 1,000...

Re: Wasaya 1900 door open inflight (video)

Its a pretty solid door. For it to open in flight it must not have been closed properly. Also the crew would have had an indication light the door wasn't closed. The light is a no go item, not able to be MEL'd. Also on close up you look in the window to ensure it's locked. And you can see most of th...
