Strega, why don't you go down to your local railway yard and bitch at the engineers who are driving the trains around and see how far that gets you.
Oh yeah if almost forgot, you would have to leave your mothers house to do that.

Re: MEK and disposable gloves
Acklands sell a barrier glove that is impervious to MEK. I'm not sure exactly what they are called but they are white and kind of have a really "crunchy" texture when you wear them. I'm sure they are pricey but my company buys them for us.

Re: Knipex tools
I had them shipped USPS and they billed me the cost of shipping them in a flat rate box. It can take a while for customs to process the box but all they did was charge the GST plus a $5 fee and they were mine.

Well all apprentices get lame jobs to do, everyone starts at the bottom buddy. Even Pilots.Unless you know someone in the industry, your probably going to be given something pretty lame to do.

Re: dhc3-t windscreen sealer...
1422 is a fuel tank sealant that will hold a window in until you want to chisel it out. PPG/Desoto makes a window sealant called low adhesion PR1428-B2. It works good and is easy to remove without destroying the window and aircraft in the process.

Re: Impressions of BCIT and its graduates?
Well you hit the nail on the head with that one, I had the exact sentiment when I left BCIT. I got a chance to see the new campus when I was through YVR a couple months back and was impressed with the facility but I don't think it will be a better place to learn. I found a majority of the courses we...

Re: ics course
But if you put the person with mechanical aptitude through a good tech. school they will come out ready to go right to work on aircraft with standard practices and basic aviation skills/knowledge already programmed in. 100% correct, but if you are an idiot no amount of education will change that. I...

Much better to go to an approved school. If money is an issue look at the stevenson program where you go to school for only a couple months a year for 4 years.

Re: Apprenticeship Wages
That's kind of flawed logic, why should a guy get paid less than he can afford to live off of just to get experience. I agree that some jobs are a better learning experience for an apprentice than others but the bills need to be paid too. Been there done that, got a great start and left for said rea...

Re: THE OFFICIAL Is an AME an Engineer thread
Ok I just couldn't pass this one up from strega In the Czech Republic the title "engineer" (Ing.) is given to people with a degree in chemistry, mechanical engineering or even economics (the last one is due to the historical reasons and tradition). Well I guess we AME's can be called engineers becau...

Re: THE OFFICIAL Is an AME an Engineer thread
OK so for those of you who hold an AME licence and think you aren't worthy of being called an "engineer" if have a simple solution. Go to the good old USA and become and A&P. Then cut up your AME licence because you don't think you deserve it.

Re: THE OFFICIAL Is an AME an Engineer thread
Wow if the rest of us AME's put as much effort into fighting for better wages as you guys put into bickering over wether we are engineers I can't imagine where the pay scales would look like. Personally I think both sides of this argument are right it just depends if you can understand that Aircraft...

Most people I know in the maintenance business read these forums from time to time. I just wonder how many people acutally apply at Voyageur these day given the smear they get here. Just a warning to all you shady employers out there that in todays labour market you can't get away with the crap you ...

Must enjoy the occasional, "You should feel grateful you even have a job." It's strange but I have to agree with every point that "tellyourkids" made. As far as finding 12pt. sockets goes I would suggest SK. They are almost identical to snap on but about half the price, the flex sockets they sell are also a good investment. You can also make good use of the Knipex plier wrench available from crawfordtool.com, these are the same ones snap on sells ...
