You could always take the Aircraft Maintenance program, and start apprenticing at a flight school, and if you are lucky, as I was, the flight school will let you take some lessons for free, attend ground school at a reduced cost, and trade some overtime for flight hours.

To the WestJet Maintenance recruitment team; offering 29 per hour to a 15 year AME M1/M2 is not going to cut it. I suspect your having trouble filling positions in Calgary for that, may I suggest offering a living wage...

Depressingly I am more upset that the pilot was in Canada on a work visa, since I currently know several Canadian pilots that are out of work.
