Re: Conair Career...it's a good time to get on.
This is an interesting thread to watch. I've always been interested in aerial firefighting, since I was in college. Now, with approximately 25000 hours of mostly bush flying, a few thousand hours of 705 time too, I'm still kind of curious about it. I have some friends who made the switch from 705 f...

Re: Conair Career...it's a good time to get on.
FOMO is an interesting recruiting strategy. I haven't seen that one before. But where is this next wave of pilots going to come from exactly? To get people to quit their nice safe airline jobs you're going to have to make it make more financial sense.

It's not in civil war. That could have been a factor in diverting.

What's the advantage of this mod? Just noise suppression or does the back pressure help starting or something?

Re: Overseas for RAIC
I don't think so. I worked in some awful places and though it took a year I did end up getting a new RAIC for YYZ on my return. They may ask for some things on top of the usual places, addresses, and dates. Letters from employers, for example. If you have others that can vouch for what you were doin...

Re: Lion Air 737 MAX 8 Crashes in Indoesia
Garuda seemed alright. When I was Indonesia I was pretty surprised by the amount of crashes. Even for the third world it was high. Not only small aircraft either. Their were 705 sized machines augering in every month or so. It rarely made the world news but this one being Lion and in Jakarta is a bi...

Bill you might try contacting Nakina Air Service and asking for Millie Bourdignon. If she doesn't have the information you're after she would know who you can speak to. She's the busiest person I've ever met though so ask when would be a good time for her to talk.

Re: Huge discouragement
I'd recommend doing a road trip and visiting these places you're applying in person. When I was looking for my first job I thought the same as you, just send out resumes and if they need someone they'll call. The problem is everyone does this and they have huge stacks of resumes collecting dust. Aft...

Re: Mitts, Gloves, Boots, Coats for the North?
Wow I had no idea those things were called Garbage Mitts. I originally bought them as emergency backups to stick in my pockets but after trying them they became my main mitts for years. If they got too saturated with grime/oil/fuel you could just get a new pair at the Northern for cheap. I agree tha...

Re: Did Everyone Leave Pacific Coastal?!
What's it like being a commuter there? I know they are promoting that you can live anywhere on their route structur now. Like say you live in Victoria and fly the Saab. Would it involve going to the airport at o'dark thirty and flying to Vancouver and then being expected to do a full duty day? Is it...

Is it really this easy to "tariff-jump"? Seems like the Americans aren't going to like this.
I wonder if Airbus is going to give it a new name.

Panel style interview with one person from HR and two from flight ops. The HR person will explain to you the terms and conditions of the job and benefits. No technical questions really. Just 'tell me about a time' type questions. Most industries have moved on from this style of questioning but aviat...

I assumed it was for the YQT-YFH-YLH now that Nakina seems to have disappeared. How much gravel does a Q400 need at max weight? Nakina disappeared? The Porter YQT base seems like a genius idea to secure some pilots. There's lots of them in Northern Ontario that have no desire to move to Tor...

Re: What airplane was the most difficult to fly?
For me it was the Air Tractor AT-802. Very sensitive high lift wing that reacts to every little ripple in the air. A turbulent summer's day makes you feel like you just spent hours in a clothes dryer.
