Re: Hypothetical Class I instructor Extinction
This is a very serious problem - not enough Class 1's or 2's, or even 3's out there. It is really going to affect FTU's big time - how will TC deal with it. As there is currently a huge requirement for pilots, things will have to change - FTUs will have to be able to operate somehow. No Class 1's or...

Re: Forced Landing Choices.
Scenario #1- shoreline, but not necessarily in the water. Too much traffic everywhere else. Hard objects to hit. Scenario # 2 - well, if it's before freeze-up, not a lake, unless a nice beach - perhaps a logging road where you might get help, as opposed to a clearing where you may not encounter anot...

Re: Wasaya caravan missing
Does no one find it ironic that Wasaya's statement regarding the reason SAR could not reach the aircraft, was due to the same weather conditions that probably caused the accident in the first place? I'd be interested in knowing what the forecast was in the area, and if icing was forecast, why was th...

Re: Reporting a Laser Strike
the most important thing is to try and identify where it came from. Obviously it is difficult to pinpoint the source, but the more specific you can be the better. It is impossible for the police to locate the source after the fact. Plus it doesn't matter who you report it to. ATC and police authorit...

Re: Most cost-effective way to get Multi-IFR
Do you even have a multi engine rating? What did you do during your instrument training? Just because you have the instrument "hours" doesn't mean you are ready for an IFR flight test. There is a lot more to the rating than what you get during your CPL training, especially if it is a multi IFR ratin...

Re: Drones: popular…and currently uninsured
Just bought a drone, called our insurance company who are scrambling around trying to figure it out. They haven't called us back yet with a quote. They thought it might be covered under our house insurance, but I have my doubts. Meanwhile, I really question the need for insurance for a drone that we...

Re: Flight instruction out of own aircraft
CARS reference - interpretation - "owner" - in respect of an aircraft, means "the person who has legal custody and control of the aircraft." Simply put, a person who has custody and control of an aircraft cannot use it for commercial/flight training purposes. A person who is the "owner" or family me...

Re: Flight instruction out of own aircraft
tonyhunt - "406.03 (2) A person who does not hold a flight training unit operator certificate may operate a flight training service if (b) the trainee is (i) the owner, or a member of the family of the owner, of the aircraft used for training" This does not seem to apply in the OP's case. The instru...

The "owner" is the person who has legal custody and control of the aircraft, so if that's you, you can't do it.

Re: Most important type of flying in aviation?
I agree. What someone learns from you shows in their work, and gets passed on. It's a good feeling to see a student do well in their career, and realize that perhaps you have had some influence in their attitude or flying skills.

Parry Sound. Not fancy surroundings, but the food is absolutely worth the trip. Always worth a phone call, though, wherever you go, to make sure if/when places are open.

Lorna was a class act. She was a professional through and through. And what a career and life she had. Fascinating. I really regret not making more of an effort to contact her in recent years.
She will be missed by a whole lot of people. Cheers, Lorna!

Re: 230 People Killed in Occupied Palestine
That is so not true! They enter the military because they have to, most of them would rather just live a normal life if that was possible. However, the circumstances Israel finds itself in makes it necessary to have everyone serve in the military. If Hamas etc. would just let them be, there would no...

Re: 230 People Killed in Occupied Palestine
There were wars in the middle east before Israel existed. If Israel was left alone, it would leave everyone else alone. It has the right to vigorously defend itself. If Hamas purposely sets up its posts in civilian areas and those areas get hit, Hamas is responsible for what happens. They do it as a...

Re: 230 People Killed in Occupied Palestine
Why is it that the Palestinians have been left on their own by all the Arab states, none of them are helping, in fact they are rejected by them. Israel has done more for the Palestinians than Arabs have, even to the point of providing weapons to Palestinian police in the past, who of course have use...

we stayed at the Melita Hotel. Not a Holiday Inn for sure, small, quiet, nicely appointed, reasonably priced and near the train station. Don't expect an American style hotel.
