Re: Air France tailstrike

airbus uses a "Ground Speed Mini" function.

https://www.smartcockpit.com/docs/A320- ... nction.pdf

Since this took place after landing the wind does not appear to be a factor in the tailstrike.

Re: Metro 3 ( dangerous as they say it is )

Hello aviators, I might have an opportunity to fly a metro 3 but I’ve been reading and hearing it’s a dangerous beast to fly ? I’d like to hear from other pilots that have flown it or still fly it if this is true ? Fly safe It's true that any aircraft can kill you if not flown correctly. Here's a v...

vanislepilot wrote: Wed Feb 07, 2024 5:15 am With the tax free compensation OP has explained, one may not need an “after” Emirates. If you get in at say, 25 26, you could probably retire at like 45-50. Do whatever the hell you want. Retire in a lot of places in this world.
I'm guessing you've never been to Dubai.

Re: DISTRACTION

Close to the ground, IMC and in a turn with the PF no longer flying the aircraft?

That's not a time for callouts - that's a time for action imho.

I'd have taken over - no hesitation whatsoever. But that's me.

This is a serious incident - I'd be writing an ASR.

Re: Cheapest possible IFR approach at airport

As an alternative you may be able to get approval for a Cloud Breaking procedure. Waypoint with a holding pattern. Join holding at MSA/MORA. Descend in the hold to get VMC then continue visually to land. Are these generally published on a plate linked to an aerodrome? I understand the principle but...

Re: DISTRACTION

I have twice had to loudly say “Bank” on initial climb out in pitch black conditions because we were beyond 30 degrees bank angle(and getting worse) after the captain started playing with the FMC while hand flying the aircraft in a turn. Something goes wrong with the FMC and they likely think that ...

Re: Emirates or Air Canada

From the website: " Some unfortunate people have been arrested in a public place like their London office or a hotel restaurant in Rome ." Should AC pilots avoid layovers in London & Rome now?! Did you not read the entire article? It deals with abuse of the Interpol Red Notice system. UAE is one of...

Re: Airbus off runway in Vilnius

Decision to continue taxi probably caused more damage to the engines.

Considerable side loading on the gear as well.

Nice example of weathercocking.

Re: Air France tailstrike

They may not have had a skid plate, but did they not have a tail strike caution light? Did they even know they had a tail strike? They didn’t say anything to ATC about a tail strike. They just said they were trying to avoid a long landing. Don't fly the A350 - none of the other airbus types I have ...

Re: window blows out on alaska airlines / emergency landing

I see some of you don't see the problem with the DIE (much more appropriate) agenda. It's quite simple - instead of hiring the most qualified people people are now hired based on arbitrary characteristics such as race/gender/sexual orientation etc. The end result of this should be obvious - already ...

Re: Air France tailstrike

Would that cause substantial damage? Obviously it looks bad, but aren't they designed to take a certain beating? Yes - as posted above I would expect a lot of damage to the underlaying structure. Structure is designed for aerodynamic loads - not for ground impact. There is an aft bulkhead - the res...

Re: Air France tailstrike

Had a listen to the sounds on the video. It sounds like idle reverse was selected then cancelled before the engines spooled up for the rejected landing. Maybe procedures are different with the ROW/ROP system - but on all jets I've flown a go-around after selecting reverse is strictly prohibited. Wil...

Re: What does it really take to make a career destinaton

This is a multi faceted question but I will ask it the best way I can to try and make an APPLES to APPLES comparison. Answer the poll but feel free to post your thoughts. I'm not sure it's that simple. We are all different and things that are important to one person are trivial to another. You're a...

Re: JAL A350 collision & fire

I’ve never seen a fire hydrant airside, so from that I assume the ARFF are not equipped with enough fluid to extinguish a large fire. I figure they are only trying to slow it down enough for everyone to escape, after that they let her burn. That makes sense - no point in risking lives once everyone...
