Re: Northern Air Carriers Feeling the Pinch.

If you pay people properly they will go to school . The air operators do not pay so there will be a shortage that will only get worse ! It is really that simple . AME 2 years of school 15 an hour when he gets out you figure it out .

Oh Snap

Snap Lake is shutting down ! Not good for aviation once again. DeBeers says there is less demand for diamonds or is this like oil just too many of them on the market . Must affect quite a few charter and regular carriers .

Re: Westjet Unionization + Bomb threats = Connected?

Whoever is doing the bomb hoaxes is doing a very dangerous thing. People have already been hurt and it is no laughing matter . To make an emergency landing in very busy airspace creates huge risks. It could be internal issues someone has or a very unhappy customer. Either way it comes down to a ment...

Bombardier layoff

Bombardier Inc said Thursday it plans to cut 1,750 jobs in its business-jet division, about 15 percent of jobs in that unit, due to weaker demand, in the latest setback for the Canadian train and aircraft maker. Net business aircraft orders dropped to 19 from 46 a year earlier in the first quarter, ...

Re: North Cariboo Layoffs

Its not just the oil patch hurting but Natural Gas, Gold , copper , Iron ore , Moly prices have been halved as well . This creates a domino effect for everything not just in aviation . This happened in 2008 and the patch boys were over extended with toys and trucks . Hopefully they learned to save f...

Re: Fed's predicting AME surplus

I know there is always a surplus of politicians :D In general though there seems to be a tightening going on in heavy maintenance as a lot of the big boys are going south for their maintenance . AMO's in Canada have to fight the 15-20 $ range for mechanics in the US less for central America. Line is...

A word of caution from a person with experience on not getting paid . There are a lot of shady characters in SA who often do not pay their engineers and pilots on the out bases. Be very careful on who you are dealing with . Make sure your pay comes in on time the first 2 weeks . If not get out while...

News of the employment scene in the US is that they have returned to the unemployed rate before the 2007-08 downturn / recession . Only problem is people are making 25% less now . In Canada we make on average less that we did in 1990 when you factor in cost of living and decreased value of our curre...

Re: Bombardier Lays Off 1700

Aviation has always been the Canary in the gold mine in terms of the economy in general . Tough times ahead for aviation in Canada? Even with the loony down 10% with mechanics in the USA willing to work for 15.00 an hour or less it only spells a deflationary wage situation forming quickly.

Re: It's finally here!

The way I see things changing in the job market / economy is in a deflationary direction in terms of wages, benefits or hours worked ( per annum) in many fields of labor. In some cases jobs are disappearing altogether (Caterpillar , Heinz, Steel industry and Auto manufacturing from the Canadian land...
