Re: Cessna vs. Katana
I'll give you no fewer than 5 reasons why a C172 wipes its ass with Katanas and C1s. 1. Comfort, the C1 give few options to sit comfortably when you aren't the one holding the controls. I'm pretty sure that they upholstered the front of the fuel tank to make the seat back. After 45 minutes in a C1 I...

Re: KingAir 90 vs Cessna 414-421
Is it a big song and dance for this 'private air operators certificate' or can it be done without to much hassle, not saying it is worth it? Is this a stupid Q since we are talking about TC I have been leaning to the 414 but there ar two 90's down south that have been forwarded to me. TC has nothin...

Re: 406 ELTs
I agree that the SPOT system is a great idea for personal use but it will set you back $170 USD to purchase and up to $150 per year to maintain. How much of the sky does it need to see to be reliable? What is it's activation success rate in collisions? We can shoot as many holes in that system as th...

Re: 406 ELTs
Has anyone calculated what UNSARs cost the taxpayer every year? The 406 ELT is a superior piece of safety equipment that every aircraft should have on board. The argument that ELTs don't work in every crash as a good reason to not have the 406 ELT on board is total BS. In the crashes that they do wo...

The only language that is of concern is English, being that it is the international language of aviation. The motivation behind this is due to the growth of international airlines, ICAO is pushing for more english proficient pilots overseas. Being that Canada is an ICAO country we are towing the lin...

The main problem I've noticed with Ultralights and where some of the problems lie is the fact that they are so light. There is no mass to store speed as momentum should the engine fail. Drag is pretty high so when the thrust stops speed drops rapidly. A combination of all these factors results in a ...

This is a straight up chisel charter. You have someone post on a public forum looking for a pretty specific trip. So in the event of an accident it wouldn't take too much for the powers at be to do a litle digging and everyone is in a pile of excrement. For those who are considering saving $100 on y...

Probably the fault of your school if they didn't brief you properly. Ummm, last time I checked it was the PIC's responsibility to ensure all the proper flight planning procedures were followed, not the flight school the airplane was rented from. All this info is easy to find on the internet. I'm go...

If we have a flight training system that has some FTU OC holders and some non FTU OC holders then we will probably see a 2-Tiered flight training system establish itself in Canada. In recient discussions with my GA inspector they said that one thing they are condsidering is eliminating the need to h...

The topic of instructor wages is not a new one. I don't see anything changing at any point. So to help people understand where the rate charged for the instructor goes lets break it down: Student pays $50/hr Instructor Wage: $25 ($25 left) Taxes/WCB: $3 ($22 left) Rampie/Secretary/CFI salary : $5 ($...

Survivors have councilling and medicine to cure their problems. And while they are getting their treatment they get to spend time with their family and friends and get to enjoy parts of their remaining days. The deceased don't get that chance. Maybe you could say the pilot's reward is that they get ...

My favorite eye witness is the lady who made it sound like the airplane broke up before it crashed. They have a complete video of the airplane from basically the start of its take off roll to where it comes to rest and they put this lady on. No wonder I don't trust the media. I really hope the repor...

With the instructor rating you learn everything you didn't learn or bothered to remember from all your previous training. Let's put it this way: even if you never instruct you will forever be a better pilot for completing the training. Not to mention it might enlighten the rampies who think instruct...

Hedley's mostly right. If you have already completed the RPP and did nothing along the way to work toward the PPL. At least in the Prairie Region, they have been allowing the PPL written and flight test stand for the RPP equivilent. The only time you would maybe take advantage of this option though ...

OK, first of all who wants to toss bags as long term employment? How much training do you need? Take this bag, throw it there. If you have a unicorn to trade I think you should be able to find a 1999 or newer C150. But seriously, they stopped manufacturing the C150 in or around 1977 which was then replaced by the C152, Cessna stopped manufacturing them in the mid 80's. If you want a C150 they run anywhere from $15,00...

AOC's say nothing of how many aircraft are owned or operated by a company. That's why you should do a register search if you are that nosy. The AOC says that the Seneca and Conquest are both approved to operate under CAR 702 and CAR 703. Additionally, if the company were to no longer operate a type ...
