Re: TSA Required for all US airspace overflights
This would affect most flights between the Atlantic provinces and the rest of Canada.

Re: Do people aspire to be corporate pilots?
Of course my questions were ignored probably due to the fact he's like every other corp pilot, thinks he's bobby big wheel and doesn't have time for a young aspiring corp pilot. Hmm, so based on this statement, now that you have become a corporate pilot you're no better than the person you're criti...

Is it possible the 8k TT pilot was taking off in the direction nearest his enroute heading?

Colonel, your goal is admirable. Your use of condescension and ridicule to achieve it is not.

Another possibility is a pressurization/lack of oxygen problem.

Re: YYZ New SID's
The published preferred routing from the east includes the RAGID arrival and this is what we've been filing. A controller mentioned one day that this arrival was OK for the 24's but the IMEBA arrival is used for 23. Both arrivals route to all three runways so I'm wondering what the SOP is for assign...

Re: Foreflight now has Canadian IFR charts and plates on Ipa
The next step is for Foreflight to gain access to the Canadian VFR charts. So far they only have coverage from Ontario east to Nova Scotia using FAA data. I heard from a NavCanada source that they will soon have the Canadian charts converted to digital format and have had discussions with Foreflight...

Re: CYHZ ILS
I was told that as ILS systems come up for replacement, or a new one is installed, any back course associated with them is lost because the new ILS's don't support BC's. Wherever possible, an RNAV approach is commissioned to replace the BC.

Re: Challenger Québec 11 medevac very close call CYUY
I had an aircraft at Innotech for maintenance at the time of the 125 wing collapse. As I remember being told, the wing was shipped back to the UK for repair. On it's return to YUL it was hit by a truck following unloading and had to be repaired again. Almost 30 years ago so I might have the story wr...

In New Jersey flying east on V312, after crossing the Coyle VOR, you cross the JIMEE intersection, then FALON.

The 406 ELT will only transmit the coordinates if it has been installed with a nav interface to an onboard GPS system, which is optional. I suspect that many aren't being installed this way.

Re: Approach ban is pretty much gone
The way I read it: If the airport is approved for LVOP, the CFS will show RVR 1200 in the runway data section and you're good to taxi down to RVR 1200. YFC rwy 09. If the airport is approved for RVOP, the CFS will show RVR 600 in the runway data section and you're good to taxi down to RVR 600. YHZ r...

Re: Approach ban is pretty much gone
Someone correct me if I'm interpreting it wrong. Using Fredericton as an example, I'm told to check the current CFS for the applicable status in the runway data section. The March 12 amendment states RVR 1200 for runway 09 and 15. Operating under 604, if the RVR is 1400 I should be legal to fly an a...

Re: Globe&Mail: Lives Could Have Already Been Saved
I think complacency plays a major role in many aviation incidents/accidents. How about this scenario: You're returning to home base or to a very familiar destination where you have "local knowledge" versus the first landing at an unfamiliar airport having the same approach and runway facilities. The...

Re: The Garmin 196 spat
Snoopy Would I be correct in saying that if you found yourself in the position of having your ADI failed and you had a 196 in your flightbag, you wouldn't pull it out and give it a try? In my opinion, this scenario would be a perfect example of good CRM - using all resources available to ensure a sa...
