I think you've answered your own question there: While there are guys running around with 1500 hours that would do a fine job.....there are too many who wouldn't. The company doesn't want to hire too many King Air Captains.. they just want one (the one who would do a fine job). Besides that, in all ...

The problem lies in the fact that no longer are today's youth in higher education to learn. Instead they are in higher education to recieve a piece of paper. You got it.. everything besides the most basic of jobs and trades requires (or at least highly favors candidates with) a bachelor of somethin...

Naw, falken I'm not jaded and of course there are plusses to being a pilot. What I try and do is bring a little reality into the equasion by pointing out that being a pilot is not really all that difficult. Oh...I forgot, I prefer building airplanes to flying them because like cabinet making it req...

The knee jerk reaction here to dismiss all trades that involve hand tools here as nothing but blue-collar and low on the hierarchy of skill just shows the naivety and lack of real world experience possessed by the young know-it-alls who demand satifaction from the world because they are somehow sup...

Cat, you have to agree that at least to some extent.. that flying is more exciting than making a cabinet.. that as a pilot you have much more responsibility to the public and their safety.. that flying an airplane can be a lot more difficult & stressful than putting together a cabinet.. etc etc I do...

JAA, P1 Time?
Just a quick question based on another thread in this forum.
What does TC consider P1 time to be?

I had three years essentially off of flying. Technically, I stayed current / recent during that time... but I still had a ton of rust by the time it was done. Also, because I dragged out the 'getting back on the horse' phase over 6 months, it took almost 20 hours to get back to my old proficiency. D...

Statements like this make me cringe.. It's not just about "logging time" how about building hands and feet and decision making skills outside of the circuit, not to mention flying alternating legs... You would fly alot more as an FO than an instructor. You might be the next . Yeager, but not a comp...

They've also got a note on their website that if you'd like to log "JAA P1 time" you need to pay an additional $20/hr. I assume that ensures that you aren't flying as the safety pilot. Am I right in saying that JAA P1 is equivalent to PIC? If so, wouldn't that be acceptable to TC as legit multi PIC ...

but those Katanas were great machines Except in the sun...or if your tall I agree.. but then I'm not tall (only 5'10"). To the same end a c150 is just as cramped for a tall person. I'm not sure what you mean by "in the sun" .. if you're talking about its limitation to fly when the structural temp i...

I don't understand how some people refuse to see the danger in not speaking the same language. I couldn't care less WHICH language is chosen, but everyone has to admit that ONE language is safer than two. I agree with what some are saying: eventually two pilots in some uncontrolled pattern are going...

There's no point on quoting any single person, since there are many who are talking about 'people being afraid of flaps' and about 'the designers not being stupid' etc. I don't think anyone is afraid of using flaps. When used in inappropriate situations they can produce problems: ie full flaps in gu...

I started my training on C-152's. When the school I was at sold off its C-152 fleet in favor of DA-20-C1's (Katanas), I rejected the idea at first and went for a few flights in C-172's. An instructor of mine was able to persuade me to make the move over to the Katana. I have to say that it was the m...
