Re: New Hires Can Travel with WJ, But Not AC
I didn't notice if anyone corrected earlier, but its not just Pilots that have lost passes. Its ALL AC employees. This is from a friend that just started there. Apparently it comes from other employee groups getting hired, jetting off to Austrailia (amongst other places I'm sure) and then quitting. ...

Re: Vancouver to Victoria (Jazz)
CYIV-CYST is 5nm. It is uncontrolled-ish (its a MF), but in uncontrolled airspace. That usually involvs the approach being loaded into the GPS and a full briefing given prior to departure. Its a quick one. As for the YVR to YYJ, even on an IFR day, there still time to take a breath. Its not as busy ...

Re: AC engine failiure after dept YHZ.....ends up in YUL
With the account of the passanger above, saying that they were in the air for well over the 1 hour maximum for single engine, keep in mind that a fully loaded 767 hoping the pond is going to be WAY over a max landing weight. When you assume its going to be a 6 (rough guess here) hour flight, and are...

It was a flight of 7 military aircraft. 1 tanker and 6 fighters I believe. They were blocked from FL240-FL260.

Well played fine Sir. Any chance I could print and post that in the crewroom? I think it would get a bunch of laughs from everyone.

Re: Catastrophic engine failure... have you ever had one?
Only had 1 thus far. I was the First Officer on the flight. On takeoff out of a BEAUTIFUL northern manitoba destination (I'm sure that doesn't narrow it down, as they are all Beautiful), the oil pressure light came on somewhere north of 90kts. I looked down to see the gauge bounce off the bottom sto...

Don't sound like either pilot in the 777 was overly impressed. I doubt it would have been an RA. Probably a TA. I don't think the small A/C would have the required transponder to activate an RA. Still not a fun situation. If theres anyway to find out what was said on the "discrete" frequency, please...

I don't think taking a job with low pay is irrisponsible. Its the choices made once you have that job. I work for a major airline, based in Calgary, and live elsewhere and have to commute (for now), and I do it responsibly. If I go on reserve at 3am, I am in Calgary and have had my rest when 3am com...

De Ice truck on its side
Commuted into Calgary this evening and taxiing past Apron 2 (the cargo/deice apron), there were about 6 fire trucks a few airport vehicles and a De Ice truck on its side leaking deice fluid all over the ramp. Anyone have any info on what happened there?

Another pilot gone too soon
Just heard a young pilot in Thompson was killed driving into work this morning.
All the best to his family and friends back home, as well as his friends in Thompson.
My thoughts are with everyone.
Hang in there, and take care.
In fact the approach to this runway brings you into the 07 the up hill approach
Infact, the approach does brings you in for 07, correct, but thats the downhill direction that slopes down at 1.56%. Re: What Really Grinds my Gears
Back when I was flying out of Thompson, there was a particular company flying single engine turbines that had repeatedly told ppl that they had better moving maps than us, and that because of that they had lower minimums than we did. They also had no clue what 126.7 was used for when in uncontrolled...

Re: A Lack of Airmanship...Again!
Back when I did my training (rec, and private) at ZBB, the flying club had the "area clear behind" on the runup checklist... So if it was the company I trained at, it would appear that ppl aren't reading the checklist.

I know in the past, if you were training at Pro IFR, they had accomidations to rent for the out-of-towners while flying. Not sure if they still offer that tho. Might need to make a call to confirm.
