Re: Does Transport Canada even exist?
I'm in a similar situation, except my booklet expired when I applied back in August. I patiently waited over six weeks before calling. I got lucky after waiting on hold for over thirty minutes. Was told it was being processed and to email Pacific Region for more information. Sent an email two weeks...

Getting back into flying after a hiatus
A little background on myself. I had been flying and working consistently up until 2020. Experience-wise, I have between 7-8 thousand hours, about 3k PIC and maybe 2500 jet. I had been working on a contract overseas, which was terminated in early 2020. I didn't try to find a job as the market was de...

I've always found the fms' that I've used to be easier than any gps I've ever used. All of the sub menus and hidden key strokes were more difficult for me to remember than the systematic process of a fms. I'll take an EFIS setup with a FMS over a G1000 any day.

Re: Is a Beech 1900D..
^ interesting that you mentioned Transasia. I always thought of the Transasia accident as a breakdown in CRM over stick skills. Correct me if I'm wrong but the Captain (who was PF) ran the engine failure drill by himself without including the FO. I think good CRM skills are harder to come by than le...

I would leave for the correct compensation, let it be an airshow or flower show. For the right price anything is for sale.

Re: Is a Beech 1900D..
I'd consider a 1900D "half glass" just like most EFIS aircraft but that's splitting hairs. Personally I don't understand why any of this matters. I've flown full steam, half glass, full glass, piston, turbo prop and jet. hands down the easiest is full glass/ jet. Once you wrap you're mind around the...

Re: Jazz lands on lights in YYC?
Why do some people get so sensitive when their company stuffs something up? I’ve worked at a lot of different companies over the years and at each one, I could imagine someone making a mistake. We’ve all been in the sim with someone who is weak. I’ve yet to see the company where everyone is amazing ...

Re: CRJ Start Up Rumours...
The idea makes sense to me. Correct me if I'm wrong but most cargo conversions are created once there is a surplus of the type of aircraft. The 727 became a popular cargo aircraft as airlines dumped them for aircraft that were more cost effective. The 757-200 is another example of this. The passenge...

I know some guys set up the ILS for the departure runway as a method to test the ILS. Personally I set up the VOR for the airway I'll intercept and on standby is the ILS for the departure runway. I don't see the harm in having it ready to go.

Am I the only one that read the crew was told to pull up on the third approach due to a slow aircraft ahead? How is the third go around the crews fault?

Re: Air New Zealand asking Immigration to import foreign pil
I didn't read anything in the ad about needing a type rating. If the foreign pilot has a type rating than good for them but I don't see what one has to do with the other. I'm not fully educated on the Air New Zealand situation but to the best of my knowledge, they aren't turing down pilots with the ...

Re: Air New Zealand asking Immigration to import foreign pil
I don't see what the problem is. The company is saying that there isn't enough qualified pilots (500TT 25 night) and government is saying that there isn't a pilot shortage. There's a difference between pilot shortage and qualified/ experienced pilot shortage. A lot of overseas carriers conduct busin...

Re: A Boeing 777 Has Crash-Landed At San Francisco Internati
Is there a surface analysis available for the hour of the accident ? Nevermind sunshine, there still can be some windshear... Actually, you should be looking into the USGS and shifts in the San Andreas fault. Your windshear theory could have been due to the air being displaced by the subtle but rec...

At my company, the best ramp employees are the ones that aren't pilots. Having an IFR will not make me take you more seriously. Apply for the job, work your ass off and you will be taken seriously.

Re: Running out of fuel
Sorry I didn't word my response very well. I've landed with just 45 minutes of reserve before at my alternate airport. The aircraft that I fly has fuel gauges that work quite well and another gauge that tell me exactly how much fuel that we've burnt. So in my situation there is no excuse to not have...

Re: Running out of fuel
I've never landing with less than my 45 plus alternate. I check fuel at the top of climb against my flight planned GS and then every hour after that. Before I start my descent/ arrival I work out how long I could hold for and or how many approaches I could do. Pretty basic stuff if you ask me.

Re: Langley Flying School
I’ll start off by saying I’m completely bias towards LFS. I did all of my training and worked as an instructor at the school. First lets address the different colours on the aircraft. I like shinny new aircraft just as much as the next guy but when you’re starting out it just doesn’t matter. The mos...

Re: Ignorant Pilots
More to the point... What's the most considerate thing you've seen another pilot do? I'm tossing down the gauntlet. Go for it. One of the nicest things I've had another pilot do for me, was the Wasaya crew who picked up my backpack for me in ZPB! I left it in the MTO building and asked a departing ...
