Re: Float plane training Alberta
Orrrr.... U could hop a 1 hour Westjet flight to Abbotsford and get some real westcoast float time at fort Langley air. Stay for a week and they'll have you done. Then you see lakes, mountains and salt water.

Re: Aircraft Painting
I'm not an AME but according to the tribunal I think one of the findings was that IAW the aircraft maintenance manual, after the control surfaces are painted, they need to be balanced. None the less, I'm assuming that when a commercially registered aircraft is painted, regardless of size, an AME wou...

Re: Aircraft Painting
Regrettably, you are all wrong. Painting an aircraft is maintenance and requires a release from an AME. For a commercial aircraft it must be by an AMO. See the following judgement by the Civil Aviation Tribunal (denied) on appeal against an enforcement decision by Transport Canada on that basis: ht...

Re: Aircraft Painting
Thank you for your replies. I am speaking about painting in the commercial world so gathering from the responses, a commercial paint facility needs to be an AMO. I suppose most commercial operators probably convert their hangars into makeshift spray booths, hire auomotive painters and have them supe...

Aircraft Painting
I was curious about aircraft painting. What and where are the regs? Does a paint shop need to be an AMO? Who can paint aircraft (certification)? Where are the paint shops in western Canada?

Re: Question regarding YVR positions.
I agree about Pasco. That's short for pacific coastal airlines if you're new to the industry. YVR ramp crews tend to go back to school for the fall so typically there are some openings. Pasco rampies have moved up into Csa, dispatch or even flight crew positions. PM me if you would like some more in...

Re: Q400 vs ATR
I think the best thing WJA could do for positive media is to buy airplanes built in Canada by Canadians. WJA would look fantastic in the GTA papers and news networks by supporting the local economy. The sector altitudes between YKA and YYC are between 10000 and 15000 depending on where you are. Moun...

Updating online application
I last updated my resume with WestJet just over a year ago. It's time to update my times. I am having no trouble updating my profile and resume, but it won't let me reapply for the job so I can update my experience on the hiring matrix. How do I re-answer the original job application questions?

Re: Island Express Air
A friend of mine interviewed there a year ago or so. When Island Express started up he provided training and his pilots left for Orca. So now he makes you either pay for the type rating up front or he will loan you the money for the training in which you work for free until the debt is paid off at I...

Re: Old war birds formation over YVR
Yesterday was an anniversary celebration at YVR. I think 80 years perhaps. There were some aviation historians with displays set up at the South Terminal all day. They also built an observation deck just north of the South Terminal with a great view of 26R. The formation group of aircraft were the "...

Re: B1900 Systems
The company has provided the proper manuals and the training is fantastic. I just wanted to supplement my knowledge with this manual. I read a copy of this book a while ago and wanted to buy one for myself. I'll just spend the $50 and buy a new one for myself.

Has anyone used the book by Aviation Solutions called "UC Systems" studying for a beech 1900 PPC? If so does someone have a copy that they'd be willing to sell? PM me if interested.

Re: Castlegar CYCG
Here's another question. What are the limits into nearby Trail? If lower than YCG could Jazz not just fly the Trail approach and then fly up the river to YCG on low ceiling days? I recall Pasco used to do the opposite before they had their approach approved from the south into YZZ. I'm not exactly ...

Re: Air Canada Interviews
For those of you just looking for insight on hiring, the positive news is that there are new hire initial groundschools on the list again in June. If the plans for the low cost carrier go through, expect 460 more pilot positions on top of the replacement of 10-15 pilots per month at mainline. This ...

Re: Air Canada Interviews
I did ask about Air Canada... More specifically what their plan for interviews was.... The banter is pretty interesting though. I've realized over the last few weeks that it doesn't matter who the person is, how good of a friend they are, or how much integrity they have as a person, if they are a pi...

No retirement plan with pasco. Extended medical and limited travel benefits. The passes beyond pasco don't open up till you're past 1 year probation.... But pile it, you already know my opinion... Good luck!

Re: That infamous "Pilot Shortage"
"There is definitely going to be a gap in pilot supply, because there has been nobody in the training pipeline here over the past two-and-a-half years." When I started as an instructor 4 years ago, our mid sized flight training unit had a fairly significant commercial pilot enrollment compared to t...

I'm guessing my mystery pilot is someone somewhat high up. So my question is, which upper management personnel in the mid-late 90s flew the line as well?

Inspiring Flight
In the late 90s i was a passenger on a WestJet flight from YYC-YXX when this route was first introduced. At the time I was quite young but somewhat keen on airplanes. In those pre 911 days, i was able to visit the flight deck during cruise and i guess i somehow impressed the captain enough to score ...
