Re: In which way are you paid?
Every two weeks. Guaranteed 160hours/month whether I work that many hours or not. Overtime on anything over 170hours/month. Stats get banked to use for days off when you want them. Revenue share according to points based on years of service and hours worked in a year and that total gets matched if y...

I heard the same. Only second hand knowledge, so don't quote me, but I heard the Chief Pilot leased the Gabriola base and Danroth is trying to lease the Tofino base to the pilots out there......

Re: Pilots Are Among The Best Occupations With Salaries ^60K
Thanks for mentioning that cj555. I remember reading that article a few months back and noticed that it was speaking of the mean wage and not the average. BIG difference. I'll bet the average wage is a lot higher than $66000, although that would be entirely misleading. You could have 2 guys, one mak...

Re: Being Bullied!
I won't go to far into it, but my first year on the job I was faced with the pressures of flying aircraft situations that were either ILLEGAL or downright dangerous. Like most, I folded to some of the pressures. However, as the season went on I quickly realized that there was nothing that was going ...

Re: Turbo Otter Crash, Mayo, Yukon
Something Brad said after pulling up to his Otter in St. Theresa Point and seeing every lifejacket in the otter floating down the lake after some kids got into it and pulled all of the cords: "Mother Fu*#er! I am going to go buy a bb gun from the Northern Store and hide out in the bushes all night a...

Re: Turbo Otter Crash, Mayo, Yukon
I will miss you, Brad. What a fantastic, stand up guy you were. You were the first friend that I have had that I knew wouldnt hesitate to have my back when the shit hit the fan. If you were stuck on a sinking ship, Brad would have swam out and got on board to stand there next to you as you both went...

All this talk of automated flight and "look how far the technology has come". I still fly 1950 technology and don't see it changing anytime soon.

Re: Chief Pilot Exam/Interview
Lost Lake is right. I took mine 2 years ago. The written exam is a memory test on CARS....No books allowed. The interview is a more "open book" type of criteria. You can flip through your ops man to answer questions the poi may have.

Re: Canoe on a Float Plane Question
I too was surprised by the opposite yaw than expected the first time I took a canoe. It is the propwash hitting the canoe. I also flew upwards of 40 canoes a season and 95% of them were Kevlar. Never had an issue. One rope on the bow of the canoe to the float tie down, two ropes around the body of t...

Going on a roadtrip doesn't just mean knocking on a few doors. It means sitting on that dock and bugging the shi* out of them till they find work to give you. That's how I got my first job.

Definitely Lac la Croix, Quetico Air Services (campbellscabins). Jay has to be one of the most laid back guys to work with. Great place, great memories. It's too bad that Robert Howden (chief pilot) passed on last May. He was a wealth of knowledge that only years and years of experience can give you.

A Legend has passed
On Thursday, May 28th a man by the name of Robert Howden of Lac la Croix, Quetico Air Services passed away after a battle with cancer. Anyone who has had the chance to meet him will know that he was the most loving and caring, tough guy you could know. You would have walked away a better person to h...

Anyone who ever claimed that this career choice was easy started their career in the 60's and 70's. If you have already put time in with a company on the ramp, you may be better off sticking with them if you think that it shouldn't be too much longer till you get some airtime. However, there are a l...

Re: Has anyone worked for Kenora Air Service?
Believe it or not, MJ is supposedly rather busy looking after Kuby now that he has had a stroke so it is a rather pleasant place to be except for the rare occasion that she pops that fat head of hers in through the office door.
