Wow, nice job tiggermoth. Couldn't you have posted it 2 minutes earlier though? We're aiming for magic answers in under 1 hour here.

Re: Mystery Airport location

Paddy airstrip is just inside the BC border north of Fort St. John. Been past it many times on my way to Ring Border camp to ix helicopters. If I did this right, here are the coordinates to find it on Google Maps..... 57.783596, -120.241136 Should be able to plug those into Maps and it'll show you w...

Man, the line-up (http://cias.org/performers/) is looking a little...thinner than previous years. Not a shot at organizers or performers; just an observation. I still love going and I get that it is becoming increasingly difficult to put these shows on but wouldn't a three day airshow in Toronto at...

Re: Braking toys you should not

I read somewhere else about this incident, and from what I understand, there were a couple different failures he was dealing with. It seems as though something on the engine went kerput causing a loss of power, followed by an issue with the hydraulics or landing gear system. I believe that when they...

Re: Forced Approach - Best Glide Speed

So if I'm at 10,000 feet overhead a nice long runway and the engine quits, and I can't get a restart, it's time to do some aerobatics on the way down. I'd start with some rolls, loops, 1/2 cuban-8's, a hammerhead or two, and perhaps some snaprolls and spins to lose some altitude. Like this guy for ...

@tigermoth, I see your point. New is crap. OK. Now, one question. You said that your GPS was in your luggage compartment. Why did you bother to buy a GPS? I'll try to make my point more clear. New technolgy is good. It enabled you to fly in the first place. Refusing the idea of new technology is ag...

If you enjoy flying over and over in the same area, I'm perfectly OK with it. But if you say that this is the only good way to fly because you do it, then I have a problem. If you go further and make fun of people who want to go where they have never gone before ... well, you see my point. I see yo...

Re: Fun at Geneseo, NY

Hey Colonel, those are some nice shots. Neat contrast with the two Pitts' and that fancy MXS-RH of Rob's. Still tough to beat the appearance of a biplane doing aerobatics in my mind. Manfred is a hoot! Heard a funny story about him ... Here's another amusing one about Manfred for you. A few years ba...

Re: Pilot License Number Meaning

The other thing about the numbers is that they are nothing more than a 'file number' with TC. Any further licences you get from transport will have the same number. For example, I got my AME license 10 years ago in Alberta, my license number is M4xxxxx. When I got my PPL in BC in 2008, all they did ...

Colonel, I hear you. In fact, when I first got into this AME game, I worked for such a guy. I saw him charge some people for some things that made me, as a green apprentice, shake my head. He had a pretty good racket going for a while too, he was the only AMO in town so the small commercial charter/...

Re: Extra 200 or 300L

How's IO-360 engine life with this kind of hard aerobatics? Considering it is now at 300h, what are the chances it needs major work in the next 200-300 hours? Would you have reservations about picking up an aerobatic airplane that was used to its potential prior? I.e. structural concerns, safety et...

Re: Sailplanes should not be able to do this...right?!

Yup, the 1-26 can be alot of fun, just don't tell people or let them see you looping any Schweizer, the factory does not permit aerobatics in any of their machines (up to the 1-35 anyways) any more. Well, I'll be. I didn't know they had started to frown on looping and rolling the old stuff. Learn s...

Re: Sailplanes should not be able to do this...right?!

Nice comparison Jamesel. It works good for me as I am quite a bit more familiar with the powered aerobatic types. If I was ever to get into that sort of fun, the Salto would be a good fit for me at 5'10" and 180. But realistically, if I get into glider flying, it will be more for the soaring that ae...

Hi Jamesel. That is neat to know about those other gliders. I have a quick question for you, as you seem to know a bit about these things :D The H-101 Salto that Manfred Radius flies, how does it stack up as far as aerobatic capabilities. I know that he is really enjoyable to watch perform, but he d...

Re: Sailplanes should not be able to do this...right?!

I'm curious what make and model he's flying. He said in the comments he pulls 8.5 G during some routines. Hey Beef, I believe that he is flying a Swift S-1. Designed primarily for aerobatics, not as much soaring. I think there is a wingtip extension kit that extends the span into the 15m category t...

You meant the mx2 right? Nope, the good Colonel got'er right. It is an MXS-RH that Rob Holland is flying now. The MXS is a single seat version of the MX-2, and the MXS-RH is one that has been tweaked and fine tuned for Rob. http://www.planeandpilotmag.com/aircraft/pilot-reports/mx-aircraft/the-game...

Too difficult to just take the buts away from them, I guess? That would be the easiest for sure. But if they are the type to be ignoring the flight attendants telling them to stop, they are probably also the type that would have created quite a scene if you tried to take their smokes away. Most lik...

Also keep in mind the "modern way of thinking" that our society has fallen into.....think lawsuits. How many of the OTHER passengers would have filed some kind of lawsuit against Sunwing had they NOT taken action and landed early. Perhaps the extra cost of the diversion would be the lesser of the tw...
