Re: Poor service

Simply answer…..staffing YVR tower and Terminal is so short staffed they are forced to work multiple frequencies at once and implement constant delays. It’s so bad that at times there is a concern that there won’t be anyone available to work on some shifts. This summer will be challenging to say the...

Re: YVR post-interview offers

Yes, for the course that starts mid February, a few people aren’t able to join the course so some last minute slots opened up and people on standby are being called.

Re: What was your career before ATC?

We get all types going through the selection process. Pilots, engineers, programmers, waiters, stay at home parents, the whole gamut. The last group I saw in the selection process were mostly people who had finished University but had no idea what to do next. We also had a couple inexperienced pilot...

Re: Telemedicine medical question

Depends on what you mean by “expired” If you hold a Cat1 and you have passed the validity period of the Cat1 but have not passed the validity period of the Cat3 then you can still renew via telephone.(back to Cat1) There’s obviously more reasons why you cannot do it by telephone but I’m only referri...

Re: Porter Airlines Q400 hiring mid 50s pilots?

I don’t think age has anything to do with being successful in the PPC, that’s more of an experience/ability issue. And, of course, Porter or any other professional company would not hesitate to hire someone in their 50’s as long as you meet all their other requirements. At your age they will still g...

Re: Random drug tests?

There’s no drug test at work after your initial pre-employment one. Even if there’s an incident there is no drug test.

Last day is usually the Friday before Christmas and you’ll most likely be off until the day after new years (or whatever the next Monday is)

Re: YYZ training - is there any transportation to that part of the airport?

Just to add what's been written, its the MIway #57 bus and it only does the loop into the infield area once in the morning (approx 715am) and then again in the early afternoon there's a couple more stops (approx 315pm). Outside of those times the #57 still runs but just bypasses that part of the rou...

Re: Any Canadian ATC?

You quoted me from almost 3 years ago.
Today we are back in a severe short staffed situation for controllers and staff reductions never actually occurred. (for licensed Air Traffic Controllers anyways)

Re: What is salary upon completion of training?

Actually, let me do a slight correction to the previous post. YYZ has the highest yes but the other units are quite a bit less. For example; YYZ is level 15 = $44,756 YVR, YEG, and YUL are level 12 = $27,491 The rest are level 11 = $23,369 These are amounts only for the IFR ACC's, all control towers...

Re: Cat 1 medical expired can I renew?

I believe, for a CAT I holder, as long as it hasnt expired completely (ie, revert to a CAT3 and then that isn't expired) you can renew by telemedicine back to a CAT 1.

If anyone has experience with this please correct me.

Re: Maximum of 3 aircraft permitted in Vancouver-area airports!

what war are controllers fighting? Its called being extremely short staffed and in your world I guess that's the controllers fault?!?! Never mind the hiring freeze during covid, the halt on all training, the slow to recover decisions made by Nav Canada.....it MUST be some war the actually front line...

For people that didn't get a call for the IFR Feb 2024 course, hope is not all lost as the course isn't filled up yet. There's more assessments to be done this spring/summer and fall before final spots are filled.

Re: Circling Procedures

The circling minimums have nothing to do with what runway you're landing on, they are for what approach you are doing. IF you do the RNAV, use the circling minimums on that plate, if you're doing the NDB, use those minimums. Never try and take the good from one plate and use it for another and vice ...
