Re: Current Job market for Rotor / New Pilots

If you look through this index you will find most of the answers to your questions, it has been asked at nauseam. As for Covid affecting the business, it goes without saying that it has had a huge impact on the business as every other business in the world.

[quote=EasyTarget post_id=1119882 time=1592702751 user_id=50142] Otto - I'll be blunt, and it currently isn't a happy blunt. I'm one of the lucky ones in the helicopter world who is still employed and actively working. This has been a terrible year for helicopter operators and pilots for the same re...

Re: Hard to find a job?

Best advise I can give you is go visit helicopter companies and ask them about their hiring criteria, you might be shocked. By helicopter companies, I mean ones that operate in the field and not around cities and large towns.

Good Luck

Re: New to the team

Your timing is good, lots of pilots heading towards retirement in Canada over the next few years. Ft. Nelson is fairly isolated and cold in the winter, it is also a fairly small town. With your background you should have no trouble finding work. Most pilots tour in Canada, if you don’t then will lik...

Re: Too many flight schools ?

Well I disagree with cross tube on one thing, you will have to put up with plenty of BS if you get into the helicopter industry. Before you spend any of your hard earned money do lots of research, talk to as many pilots as you can. Forget doing it on forums, do it in person. For example, the average...

Re: Medevacs halted at 7 BC hospital helipads

[quote="Heliian"]It's quite simple, if your helicopter is not capable of meeting the criteria then you need a new helicopter. The biggest argument so far is that "we've always done it this way". Again, surprise surprise, it comes down to money, all parties are going to have to break out the chequebo...

Re: Fixed Wing Pilot to Heli Pilot

On that topic how much weight do operators put in your fixed wing experience if transferring to heli flying? It really depends. I was hired by a company, the CP said the reason I was hired was because of my bush/float experience (7500 hrs.). He at least knew I would make it to the pad, with a low t...

Re: Fixed Wing Pilot to Heli Pilot

The information you received is a little inaccurate anydam. The procedure in the event of low rotor rpm is to immediately lower the collective. When I did the transition we were doing manoeuvres that if you pushed the nose over too quickly, you could induce blade rocking. This could result in choppi...

Re: Cat & Doc

I-agree with you, you don't deserve respect just for putting in 40 years on the job. It's what you have seen, done and experienced over those years that matter. It's your call if you deserve respect or not but you sure as hell don't deserve insults from some child just starting out in this business...

Re: Cat & Doc

For the record, most people did not have issues with Catdrivers & Doc's messages, it was their delivery. Nobody likes to be belittled for their opinions, that goes for low and high time drivers. Their comments quit often were intended to berate other pilots, to bolster their own self esteem. For the...

Re: Getting back into it after long hiatus?

If you are serious, then you might get some re-current training. Nothing has changed from 12 years ago, send out lots of resumes followed by a road trip. I believe the odds are 15% will ever land a job flying helicopters....
