Re: Dash 8 single engine approach.
Another interesting item; the a/p is not to be used on a BC approach in NAV mode either. We can use the a/p on a BC app in HDG and VS or IAS mode. Of course you can't use the autopilot on a BC in NAV mode. The autopilot does not recognize the configuration of you HSI, meaning the fact that you set ...

Re: Scary/Embarassing Mistakes
It is not supposed to matter where you fly. Unless Class E is a control zone with an MF, it is see and be seen and there is no restriction for VFR traffic and no transponder requirement either. The speed restriction is there for a reason and in most high performance aircraft there are two pilots so...

Re: Scary/Embarassing Mistakes
I must be new, what is so wrong with that? I wouldn't recommend flying in any published airways. Did you not read my second paragraph? It is really difficult to see and avoid other aircraft when you (or the other guy) are doing 250 knots. And I hardly ever find myself on a published airway, so don'...

Re: Scary/Embarassing Mistakes
Back on topic: Just after getting my private pilot license, I climbed to 10,000 feet, just outside of Toronto terminal class C airspace. Why? Because I could, and was curious. Legal? Yes. Stupid? Definately! Now I regularly fly through the same airspace at less than half that altitude and doing 250 ...

I would be stressed too without an ADI on my main EFIS displays, and with the standby ADI upside down!!!

Re: Nobody in Toronto Gets to Sleep During the G20
I was given in choice early this morning, YHM-YMX: either a re-route via St. Catharines to avoid the 30 nm restricted airspace or be capped at 15000' until east of Oshawa. I didn't questions the logic, but how would keeping us down lower for the more direct route basically straight accross Toronto i...

Re: Leaving an engine off
Maybe they need to put an 'engine fail' light on the glareshield like the old 727s... The 'engine fail' light on the old '27s actually only warns you of a loss of thrust and auto-pack trip (if armed) after take-off thrust has been applied, and wouldn't give any warning if you didn't start the engin...

seems to me there has to be centreline lighting which pretty well rules everyplace but yvr out. Just off the top of my head, YVR, YWG, YHM, YYZ, YMX, YUL, YHZ, and YYT all have centreline lighting on at least one runway, and there may be a few others. It may not seem like many, but then centreline ...

it flies just like any other aircraft Okay, I know that you can slip it, and land it just like any other aircraft. But how can you say a modern Airbus "flies just like any other aircraft" when you don't have to hold back pressure on the "control column" in turns, or trim it for airspeed and configu...

Re: 767 and winglets
I was at the Boeing Everett plant for a tour last weekend and the guide almost scoffed when someone asked about winglets. He said "Those are old technology... it is all about the raked wings now, like on our 787 and the new 747-8..." That might be, but I think raked wings are a much more integral p...

I agree with all the positive comments here. Whenever I travel in the back I never see anyone paying attention to the safety briefing, including myself a lot of the time. Personally, I think everyone onboard that airplane not only listened to the briefing, but will probably also remember a lot more ...

funny how no other company in canada is laying off except cargojet. Funny, other than Porter I don't see anyone hiring and although it hasn't happened yet, even AC is talking about layoffs. Maybe tell your current employer the truth I wouldn't talk to your current employer about moving on until you give notice. Walker and Iflyforpie are right, the requirements for carrying passengers is 5 takeoffs and landings in the past 6 months, not 3 in the past 90 days. The latter is a commercial opperator's currency requirement in section VII of the CARs. The worst part and thing to watch out for is that it does have...

Re: What's the Pressure Altitude?
The answer to your question Flyingdan is YES! Your calculation is right and as far as how to apply it to your performance charts just remember that you CANNOT extrapolate (make up a number outside the tables' limits). So in this case you would use the MSL numbers, which are conservative like AuxBatO...

Well said!
I don't know if re-regulation is the solution though. Maybe it would be better to just let a badly run corporation go bankrupt, as it should have gone many years ago, to hopefully have it replaced by one with a management that cares.
