Re: Cathay Pacific screening/Interview Next week.

"flymez, At every place that I've worked, whether in aviation or not, I've met well-intentioned individuals who would counsel me to not leave for another company. The reasons were all the same: "No other company pays as much as us", "Do you really want to go live there?", "Sure it's more comfortable...

Re: Cathay Pacific screening/Interview Next week.

I know a few people who were offered DESO positions prior to the recession but their gs's were cancelled and CX came back to them with Cadet offers recently (they all said no). These are multi turbine captains with over 4000 hours and ATPL's. It's CX trying to save money on wages and in the end they...

Re: Airline charged with illegal exports

I'm curious to see what comes of this. At the time I was there I was somewhat wary of how the company was operating in a country with sanctions against it. I wonder how people would be reacting on this forum if it were the same story but operating against sanctions in Iran or pre-war Iraq for exampl...

Re: Most important Ruling in Canadian aviation history:

This is terrible news for anyone aspiring to get to the airlines, I'm lucky to have made it already but expect it will impact upgrade times as mentioned above for those in the right seat. Given the divorce rate in aviation I see a lot of pilot's taking the extra years of work to fund past spouses :s...

Re: AIR CANADA TO COMMENCE TORONTO CITY AIRPORT FLIGHTS IN F

It seems a lot of Jazz people have been rubbed the wrong way by this. The claim of downward wage pressure isn't true if the rumoured FO and Capt wages floating around the island are true. These rumoured numbers are higher than both Porter and Jazz pay (Based on year 1 FO and Cap) and could bode well...

Re: Things they put in Manuals

My company's ops manual regarding abandoning the aircraft upon ditching

"Take water, coffee, and fruit juices if possible, on the raft."

I don't have a clue where the coffee and fruit juices will materialize from given we don't carry them on normal flights.

Re: Pacific Coastal lashes out - today's Globe and Mail

I'm really surprised Spencer Smith issued those statements. While he is correct that there is immense pressure from clients, at the end of the day the company is ultimately responsible for a safe go/no-go decision. When I go to the doctor I trust their expertise. I may ask questions and do some rese...

Re: just another catsa rant.

I have to agree with Guido. To point out the people at Catsa's pathetic power trip is somehow related to their being new to the country is absurd. Just look at the prics at YZF they're all white and anyone who travels through there regularly will attest to them being the worst in the country. It was...

Re: Any rumours on a new Bose Headset?

The Bose is definitely better than the X-11. Dramatically better ANR and sound quality. Only downside is the lack of MP3 hookup but I just get earbuds that fit comfortably under the headset. This carries the perk of not constantly cutting off. just keep the volume low enough you can hear ATC.

Re: BC Carbon Tax Reminder

The tax is revenue neutral it doesn't fund the olympics. An average consumer will not suffer any financial loss as a result of the carbon tax due to the associated income tax reductions. Only individuals who use excessive amounts of fossil fuels or industry will be seriously affected. Low income res...

Re: Air Canada cuts 2000 jobs

I agree with Kelowna Pilot and V1Rotate, this isn't a conspiracy theory to shut down the unions. Airlines have to raise fares to compensate for oil prices. As a result demand decreases as companies cut back on corporate travel and tourists decide to stay home. Airlines then have to cut flights to ru...

Re: Logbook Question

Thanks for the replies. Sounds like at the end of the day as long as you're organized they don't mind. I stuck with just putting from Airport A to Airport A as a single daily entry. As such, the daily flight hours are way beyond the aircraft's endurance making it fairly obvious there were two + legs...

Logbook Question

I'm updating my logbook to submit my ATPL paperwork to transport. Currently doing VFR flying out of the same airport 2-3 legs per day with no enroute stops. I do daily entries in my logbook not one per flight. In the from/to column can I get away with just entering the airport once or is it better t...

Re: King Air 200 F/O

No matter what you don't need an IATRA or ATPL for the 200. Those are required for 2 crew required aircraft: eg. 1900, Saabs, Metro III's. The 200 is a "high performance airplane" depending on serial number and config due to its Vmo being over 250kts which therefore requires specified training appro...
