Hey Highlander, good question, I had the same one too.
Anyone here have input on guys with float backgrounds? I'm planning on doing the jump to IFR with 2000+ float time, mostly PIC and am right now on a Beaver on the West Coast.
Not having IFR or multi time yet, am I behind in the WestJet race?

I also did exactly what you're thinking of doing; went to AirHart with a private and did my commercial there. Leaving I had 100hrs floats, 50 on the 172 and 50 on the 180. Like the guys above said, try to fly with Trevor, really good guy. I did the road trip thing after that and I was flying that su...

I just flew out the managing wildlife officer for the area here (in the Territories) and quizzed him because I'd heard conflicting rumors on the issue. Some claimed it was fine to spot the moose from the aircraft so long as you shot em from land, others said you could blast em right off the float. T...

Leather hikers from Mark's for me this time of year...sandals woulda been no fun standing on the gut's side of a bloody moose hide honing on a tendon suitcase handle while the guy on the knife was hacking a hind-quarter off. :?

I think there's a difference between holding a pilot's licence and 'being' a pilot. Just because I go out and get a Class 1 driver's licence doesn't make me a trucker-I merely have the qualifications to drive a truck. Or say someone buys a sailboat and goes sailing on the weekends; I wouldn't think ...

Yves Demers sold the company and now instructs next door at Coastal. I'm doing my Multi/Ifr with him now, really good guy. Through the grapevine I heard the AFC was bought by person(s) of Indian descent and the majority of their students come from India for the cheaper training here then return home...

Kenora Air's got some ladies flying their 185's, saw 'em come into Selkirk once (was funny to hear, "you go girl" on the radio)- I heard they were pretty damn good at their job. I guess if you're up for the work, hauling propane and gas drums around isn't always easy work-and I'm sure these little t...

If you're religious there are quite a few organizations, the large ones including Mission Aviation Fellowship/New Tribes Mission/AIM Air/JAARS The missionary pilots raise their own support and have to have an AME or US A&P mechanic license because they do their own maintenance in the field. I think ...

So if we haul fuel in 45 or 25 Imperial gal drums why do we usually calculate avgas at 6lb/US gal? Probably a dumb question, is the answer because fuel tanks of airplanes made in the States are done in US gal while drums are made at a world wide standard imperial gallon size?

So what is Buffalo's stance on hiring guys with a bit of time? Do they prefer 200hr pilots out of flight school who'll work the ramp for some time or will they hire someone who has 1200hrs pic float time into the right seat? Water bombing is the direction I want to take my career so would it be wise...

What's wrong w/ the 206 on floats? It's got the same hp as a 185 plus a bit bigger cabin. The only thing I didnt like about it was not having a pax door and having to run around the wire every time, but the cargo door can sure be convenient.

When I was a kid I'd climb to the top of tall evergreens and see how far I could sway them, me and my brother'd do it. Another time a friend was living in a highrise downtown and we went on the roof and I climbed this beam way up overhanging the street, what a rush! We also climbed the gondola tower...
