Re: Emirates

Very interesting thread. Good to hear the real-life experiences of Complex and Eric J. I am a British-born Canadian with about 10,000 hrs in the 737NG, about 60% of that in the LHS. I’ve always considered getting the EASA licence as a backup plan, but am now thinking about it more seriously consider...

Re: The End of the WPDL Confirmed
I’ll repeat what I told Russ M to you. Anyone I hear denying the jumpseat to Swoop pilots will be banned from riding in my jumpseat. That’s the gift that ALPA brings... unity. Get off yer high horse. John Swallow
I don’t think I could stand riding in your jumpseat anyway. I’d feel ...

Re: Time to Stand Firm

Agreed. Good post, and likely a realistic outcome. One point to clarify: the MEC has been available for negotiations every day. It is the company that doesn’t come to the table very often.

Re: Time to Stand Firm

The issue the MEC negotiations team is prioritizing is bigger than just Swoop; it is broad SCOPE language to protect all of us (including your lucrative OT)in the event management wants to go forth and create other alter ego airlines or CPAs with other carriers. There are ALPA negotiation update mee...

Re: Time to Stand Firm

John, you make some good points and seem to have the OT system working to your advantage. I don’t bedgrudge you at all for that; it’s a free market system and if you are smart enough to make it fit your needs I say fill yer boots. I can also sympathize with the fear one would have of overtaxing the ...

Re: Etihad to hire up to 600 pilots in the next three years

How about opinions on the best options for a current 737 captain over in the sandpit? Not really interested in moving that far just to do more narrow body flying, but have been told it is best to try and make the move as a Captain as the upgrade process over there can have some pitfalls. Advice to m...

Re: fastest MIFR

Do you already work for someone that is going to PPC you on a twin? If so, consider the cheaper alternative of getting a VFR multi rating and a group 3 (single engine) IFR rating. Then once you get the PPC you'll get bumped up to a Group 1. Could save you a bit of $$

Feedback requested on flight college experiences

Hello, I am currently doing some research for a client who is a reputable college in Western Canada and in the start-up phase of an aviation certificate program. This program is designed to give pilots the real skills needed (not just flying, but job searching, career research, professionalism, etc)...

Good responses, thanks. I think maybe where it is confusing is when you are in visual conditions, everyone is flying visually, but you are actually cleared with the verbage "ILS 08L". In this case we generally brief the initial turn with the assumption that we will be talking with tower and be given...

Flying the published missed when on a visual approach?

If the weather meets certain criteria, at our company we brief a visual approach "backed up with the ILS"; our SOP's remind us that a visual approach does not have a missed approach segment, so we generally brief a straight ahead missed, expecting tower instructions if we go around. For some airport...
