Re: Air density and pressure confusion (written PPL)

Fact 1 makes no sense. The more pressure there is, the "thicker" the air is. http://earth.rice.edu/mtpe/atmo/atmosph ... _what.html

Re: Favourite Type

For the pure fun of flying, SuperCub (flew 135, 150 and 180hp). Versatility, MU2 (in and out of 3500' gravel strips or large intl airports, trues out at 290 knots at altitude and can operate anywhere between 250 and 120 KIAS in the terminal area, and, of course, tip tanks are cool). Jet airliner, B7...

Re: boeing 777x door blows ofF

Wow. Boeing makes some pretty shitty airplanes.
Well that may be one of the dumbest statements I've seen in relation to this event. If we knew the plane would pass all the tests we wouldn't have to do the tests.

Re: Boeing Max.

It will be interesting to see what happens in their corporate structure because the share holders will be very concerned. Yes...they are concerned now. They didn't seem very concerned as Boeing gradually switched from an engineering company to one that was focused on unlocking shareholder value. Th...

Re: Boeing Max.

I'm not implying anything. I don't know why they did what they did. I do fly the 737NG and have flown the MAX before it was grounded. The first crew actually did a decent job of flying the plane. The flight data shows a corresponding manual electric trim nose up after each MCAS triggered nose down t...

Re: Boeing Max.

Boeing is going to have to prove both in the sim and the aircraft that the trim forces do not need super strength or split second reaction to keep the MAX from becoming a lawn dart. Well....the Lion Air crew flew the airplane for around 9 minutes using the electric trim repeatedly and the Ethiopian...

Oh please - it's his own opinion and works for Airbus.....half of what he states is a crock.
Fair enough. Now what is incorrect in the article?

Re: Ethiopian Airlines: 'No survivors' on crashed Boeing 737 max

The only difference between a Stab Trim Runaway and the MCAS situation is that the pilot can intervene with the electric trim and stop it momentarily. Would you keep trying to fly with an autopilot that wasn't doing what you wanted or use an auto throttle system that wasn't giving you the results y...

Re: What is the difference between 0000Z and 2400Z

Actually saw 2400Z on the FMS today. I think it's a way of distinguishing a rounded number. In this case we were going to arrive at a waypoint sometime between 2359:31 and 2359:59 and it rounded it up and displayed as 2400Z. The same thing happens in METARS. If you've ever seen -0 then the temp is a...

Re: AC A320 slides off runway at YYZ

The CAT I protected area is smaller than the CAT II/III protected area. On a CAT II/III runway you will often see different hold lines for CAT I vs CAT II/III. I know a 757 crew that set up for an autoland on a CAT I runway in the early hours of the morning only to have to take over manually at 50-1...

OK...here is my one and final attempt to explain status pay. I'll make this real simple. Hourly rates are just for the example and make the math easier. Industry Standard pay rates B757 - Captain $200/hr Dash 8 - Captain $100/hr Company A (Type Pay) B757 - Captain $200/hr Dash 8 - Captain $100/hr Co...

Re: Crash at Iles-de-la-Madeleine

This, unfortunately, is a pilot making a great airplane look bad. I have 2000 hours in MU2s; all with no autopilot. This pilot had an autopilot which should have given him an easier task at monitoring his progress and making corrections early on in the decent. The MU2 has a wing area (with flaps up)...

Re: Signing Bonuses!

Good to see, I hope the guys who are there now are also getting compensated with some kind of retention bonus... However a better salary in the first place wouldn't require bonuses. The employers aren't stupid. If they can retain pilots with signing and retention bonuses, why would they increase sa...
