Re: To be an AME? I am scared
There is a couple of trades that pay well starting. The one I took is Power engineering. Now be aware that there is power engineering looking after hotels and hospital boilers systems and then there is oilfield power engineering looking after boiler systems to help in the removal of oil from the gro...

M748792 I have a suggestion for you Power Engineering. I was once too in the aviation field and got laid off. Same situation. They asked for suggestions on improving and saving money and I suggested they move a couple of managers to the floor to utilize the licenses there. This got me laid off. At t...

Re: Compulsive liar
I can empathize with your situation. I worked with one that was a lead had at another base. Even though the customer wanted him gone. The company would not let him go because he said what they wanted to hear. When the company lost the contract and we ended up working for the customer. That person lo...

MjrPainless As you can see you will always get both sides of the coin offered on this site. As one having just recently left aviation I can tell you my story. First of all I have no regrets. I have for the most part enjoyed my time. I have a opportunity to follow a different direction(Power Engineer...

Re: writing exams away from transport offices.
I tried this a couple of years ago. I live in Cold Lake Ab and the exam office is in Edmonton. I asked because of the travel time (4 hour drive there and back 2 hour exam) if they could send it to a government office where I could write it here. The answer was no. I would imagine if you had a longer...

Re: Maintenance Engineers
The attitude of the AME has to change. Prior to being laid off I felt like I was a part of a small select group of mechanics. I had confidence that attitudes would change over time. I answered a email from the company on how to save money. My reply was to spread coursing and qualification equally ac...

Re: Civvy to Military AMEs
For those of you who are wondering if your time in college would get you anything. When I first started working in Cold Lake my next door neighbor was training to be a F18 Pilot and he had for education a 2 year college certificate for Aircraft Maintenance. If anyone who has gone to college and are ...

Re: AME Licence or Not?
There is a huge difference between officers and non commisioned. Call the recruiter for the exact time and amount for pension. The number for indexing is 85. Which equal time served plus age. For example I did 22 years pensionable and i am now 45. I am 18 years from being index. Which would make me ...

Re: AME Licence or Not?
Big Bert To give you a idea about the military. You will be required to complete 25 years for a pension. Also they are short in the F18 world. Meaning Cold Lake Alberta. I got posted here in 90 and could not get out if I wanted to. Being single in the military means that you go where you are told. U...

Re: Civvy to Military AMEs
Boot camp is manditory for everyone regardless of age. The only exception to the rule is reservists who are transferring to the regular force and even then they are required to have done some sort of basic training. There is no civilian military mix. What you probably are referring to is the airbus ...

Re: Given the chance would you bail?
I probably would say yes at this time. I got into the industry and was warned by others. I have been lied to, stabbed in the back by younger fellas trying to make there mark in the company, overtime pay held back and oh ya expected to work overtime and if I refuse my loyalty is questioned. I have al...
