Re: Layoffs
He lost $700k but yes he started with $2.6M. My point is his cheap ass couldn’t enjoy it and now it is gone. He doesn’t seem too worried. He still has lots. My other point is the AC pilot that this retirement package targets has lots of money - already. But time is a resource that is limited no mat...

Re: Career First Officer at AC by design?
Thanks for the insight, but I find that pay hard to believe. Do you have any evidence to back that up? Pay stubs? Before or after tax? I'm assuming before. Simply put, I need to see evidence of $220-240K/year. Not trying to be a jerk, but again, very hard to believe. There are AC 777 FO making $220-...

Re: Coming home after working overseas (ATPL)
Don't know about Westjet, but as i said before, my buddies are doing great at big red, even to their surprise. Once again, short term, do expat. Long term, well, I don't think that 250-275K would exactly qualify as shit pay. You won't get it right away, but you will get it. Problem is, by the time ...

Re: Not an AC employee, using ZEDs - any easy way to list?
Maybe not a direct answer to your question, but, until not too long ago we used to have to buy the tickets on my company's staff travel website as well, then list by calling the AC call center (what a pain!). It was the most arduous process of any airline - the fact that AC's call center always had ...

Re: Controversy over US pilot shortage heats up
I'm sure many of them are excellent pilots, and even better future Captains, but I have to completely disagree with that statement. I can see a huge difference (in general) between low time pilots and more seasoned pilots. In my part of the world, when I flew narrow body airbus, but also even now on...

Re: What age is too old to go to AC and collect a full pensi
" $24,930 a year" - I suppose this is pretty obvious, but that's your contribution, correct? (then AC contributes) Some helpful numbers here, Max RRSP contribution is $24,930 a year (which at AC you will reach when making above 140k). So, in 25 years at 6% interest you will have 1.5 million. If you ...

Thanks for the replies everyone - insightful. Yes AOW, I'm pretty sure now that's what it probably was...

I heard there were direct entry ERJ Captains?
So I just attended CRM class and in the spirit of CRM, at the "water cooler" we talked about jobs back home. So an American collegue says that his friend just showed him and ad that AC was talking direct entry Captains on the ERJ?!? I immediately called BS, but he was very adamant. Checking AC's web...

Re: Air Canada Pool
 Whoa horsie!!! I can honestly say my jaw just dropped after reading the salary quote! The whole reason for my family and I not returning to Canada was I couldn't afford to take a huge pay cut. Those number are at least 20% more then what I've been quote from friends at AC. I'm assuming you g...

Re: College of Pilots......video links.
I didn't watch the video, but what the OP posted is very relevant to our industry and T&Cs. One of the many reasons for the constant deterioration in T&Cs, mainly financial compensation is simply supply and demand for pilots (globally even). There's just too many pilots for the amount of jobs out th...

Re: UAE hopefull on more landings to Canada
While I agree about protecting Canada's interests, it's also rather interesting that when an international airline wants to come to Canada, AC can beat their drum, wail and moan and eventually get their way (sooner rather than later - even though they are a private company)... **Yet** when a domesti...

Re: Canadian ATPL currency/validity while overseas
During my vacations every 2 years I've been doing a multi IFR ride (alone with the medical) to keep my ATPL current. Recently (including at my own company), many guys say just keeping the medical current is enough. I have no idea how just keeping a medical would be enough as a multi IFR rating (curr...

Re: Making a great Salary now, should I move?
I was (am?) more or less in the exact same position as you. I'm currently on the left seat living overseas and making just slightly shy of 200k usd/year (net, not gross) flying the newest and biggest planes in the sky right now. Honestly size never really mattered to me (my ego is fine as it is - re...

Loss of licence insurance for airline pilots
Hi,
Is anyone out there aware of any good loss of licence insurers with regard to airline pilots living and working overseas (that are Canadian).
The company I currently work for offers it, but the package is rather abysmal.
Can anyone advise by chance? Many thanks!

The insurance companies wouldn't of paid a dime. The people who really lost out were the families.

Totally irrelevant, but the best place
Does anyone know if a "standard" sized (not compressed, but full) backpack will fit in the overhead bin of a CRJ?? I guess it's not the usual topic, but the place most people would know... My annual leave (vacation) is coming up - really looking forward to coming home again! The reason I ask is beca...
