Re: Will Westjet survive?

I find it interesting that there is no "Will Air Canada Survive" thread or it's equivalent on the Air Canada Forum. It seems that they are in the same industry and face the same issues and challenges. Is it that all Canadians just expect and know that the government will bail out AC no matter what ...

They’ve also managed to reduce costs by at least 60% so far. They’re not just sitting around waiting for the cash to run out.

How did this get associated with a Navajo? You have to take into account the pyramid of "AvCanada bitchiness". There was no option to complain about instructing, so the poster reverted to the second level of the pyramid. Some good old 703 bashing! -------- At the top, you have FTUs and flight instr...

Re: WS/WO Layoff Mitigation Agreement

The senior guys will be fine. We are the only “international” airline that lets you keep flying (in your left seat) past 65. Their lost wages over the period of the moa can be recouped in a few months. I’ll support last pay to the last day in exchange for 65 retirement age. Deal? This statement isn...

Re: A "NEW" One List?

Well those who were upset about Encore making concessions, must be right happy now that the mainline MEC wasn't able to save a single job. Those top ~500 guys can now continue making 150-200K +ESP while the rest get laid off. Actually, the MEC was capable of saving 1000 pilot jobs. However, the MEC...

Re: A "NEW" One List?

So to be clear, on a week when 1600 or so of our fellow pilots and literally almost 10,000 of our colleagues are getting lay-off and furlough notices because of an international pandemic that is decimating the aviation industry, you are digging up old posts of mine with an anonymous internet accoun...

Those initial figures are only as long as the CEWS program lives. After that, 50mmg till end of year. It's only an FO spot that will be marginal compared to EI.

Re: MOA2

Come on guys. I have a real hard time believing that the goal of the Encore MEC was to ‘pee in the pool’ and make it as unappealing as possible for mainline guys to want the job. Are they a bunch of evil villains sitting around twisting their moustaches in delight at the result of this agreement? Th...

Re: Bearskin Crash — FEB 25, 2020 — Dryden, ON

That wouldn't explain the lack of brakes though. Realistically the nosewheel steering system and brake system is completely separate, although stranger things have happened. Then again, just the brakes wouldn't be enough to overwrite a faulty nose wheel steering, which might give the illusion of no...

Re: Westjet ad.

I think WJ pilots have an issue managing cash flow. Yes, the cheques are lopsided each month, and yes, you have to make it through one year vesting until you have a rolling amount to access in your esp. (plan obviously subject to change now in April). I find it funny how in one sentence WJ loves the...

62.09 x 930 x 1.2 company match + 7.3k option replacement. = 76.5k. (Then add whatever you feel perdiems will be).
If you came from encore, add 14.4k for each of the first 2 yrs.

Re: Socialized Bidding (Rouge)

Personally I think you'd be crazy to want to lose socialized bidding at Rouge. When do those critical holidays and days off you need matter the most; when you're young, possibly with a young family, and can enjoy it? Or when you're too old and have less commitments anyway? I find it pretty easy to g...

Well if you vote this down, any money that would have been spent at mainline (read option value) will get sent to Encore instead. What a nice gift for the Encore pilots... I knew you OTS guys were really a bunch of softies concerned for the well being of others!

All the arguing and mud slinging aside. The road shows are done and the new PTA vote began today, so we will soon have an answer. If I was able to bet one of my mediocre paycheques on the results I’d put it on NO. I'll be optimistic and say yes. There's a noisy minority that just makes it sound lik...

Open your eyes and look around. It happens everywhere in every industry in every economy. Time to let it go. Why? This fatalist attitude bothers me. Just because it happens elsewhere doesn’t mean everyone should just roll over and forget about it. People in North America have forgotten how to prote...

Fire-test trick doesn't always work either, but it helps. Leaving the power switch on for as long as possible before starting helps too. In the summer the APUs are generally fine, it's the winter when they get clogged up with deice fluid that causes most issues.

Maybe someone at onex will knock some sense into the higher ups. Or they could continue to ride all the curr...

It’s not back the way it was, my impression is they are just maintaining the list, really just for ‘housekeeping’ purposes. Nothing is finalized or in force yet.

Is there any other airline precedent for the 'bump and flush'? I have a hard time seeing any company agree to that. Given hard times necessitating lay offs, the last thing they would want is to trigger all the expense of the sudden extra training required. Just playing devil's advocate here...

Except that flow language was in the LOA. Which is now toast. So all there is now is a ‘commitment’ from the company to maintain it, but nothing official anymore. It’s more than shameful Encore became a bargaining chip for a lot of disgruntled mainline pilots, or those who couldn’t even be bothered ...
