Re: Road Shows
KAG: the AC contract is not pretty good. It is OK at best. 83% voted for it because of: 1. Beaten dog syndrome 2. Fear of another government imposed contract. 3. $10,000 bonus. 4000-6000 after tax, or 400-600/ year over the life of the 10 year contract. 4. B level travel passes 5. Shiny new airplane...

Rouge is allowed to fly under the ZX (Air Georgian) Code. There are now 3 airlines sharing the ZX code. Georgian, Sky regional, and Rouge.

Re: Companies not paying Stat Holiday Pay
I took a former employer to the labour board over Stat Holiday and Vacation pay amongst other things. They were not at all helpful and ruled against me. You will have major problems convincing them especially if you are on reserve and only end up actually flying 15 days/month. I challenged the Labou...

Re: Encore WACON released and surprise, it sucks
My personal opinion as a 12 year canadian pilot working 703/704/705 is that there is no need to change the CARs for 705 operators. Most 705 if not all are unionized with working standards better than the current CARs.703/704 is where we build are bitterness/pay our dues from. Those are the regs that...

Re: Rouge
Best play would be to follow the NHL/NFL and decertify. The company needs Unionization as much as we do. If it can't be win/win, we have to make it lose/lose.

Re: Air Nunavut launches Oshawa charter operation
Too bad those airplanes don't have washrooms. It will be tough to get repeat business on long flights without one. Oshawa needs a solid charter operator.

Re: Why no 126.7 call?
Simple answer is that it's hard to transmit/listen appropriately on 3 frequencies when you only have 2 radios.
1. ATC
2. MF
3 126.7
1. ATC
2. MF
3 126.7

Re: Dry and Wet Leases, and the grey zones in between
A couple of issues here: 1) Is Transport Canada happy with the arrangement? 2) Is CRA happy with arrangement? 3) If they are required to be employees of Sunwing they can't be contractors. Being a contractor implies that you are running your own business. Something that is often mistaken. If these pi...

Re: Do female pilots have it easier? Myth or Fact?
An HR person at a large 705 operator told me that she would like the number of female pilots at this company to reflect the number of females in Canada. As in, 50%ish ladies in Canada, 50% ladies flying at the company. I questioned her on it...she didn't like that very much. My GUESS is that the roo...

IF this airline comes to pass, the pilots will be payed the same if not more money if they are based offshore. Only thing is they won't get a DB pension. Exactly what AC wants.

Not the Golden chalice, but the only real reason to consider working at Air Georgian. If an AC interview is your goal. Air Georgian is a preferred route.

Georgian is a good place to get your time and leave. Be sure to follow the following procedure: Get hired by Air Georgian. Go Captain at Air Georgian ASAP. Gain significant PIC time on the B1900. Get Air Canada Interview. (All the Capts there have had their shot.) If PFO, Leave immediately to anothe...

Re: Employee or Contractor?
I fought this scenario personally. All pilots are employees. However, the government will not step in to 'dictate' the nature of your relationship with your employer. So, if you want to be a contractor, you don't have to worry about the government challenging you on that status. Question is, do you ...

Sorry guys, over-did-it in the first post. My point was that the aircraft was inspected by the ground crew. I see a lot of people trying to point a negative deice finger on here and I think we need some balance. Didn't read the first post carefully enough regarding FZRA etc.... Obviously the aircraf...

Re: Westjetters back Regional Airline 91% say yes
An overtime coverage based system only works if you get enough days off to begin with. With 10-12 days off per month, I find getting people to do overtime is hit and miss. Hopefully the Westprop operation will have more like 14+ like their mainline counterparts. Could be tricky to get enough credit ...
