Re: VIDEO: Piper Malibu Slides Off the Runway during Landing

Measuring distances on Google earth, the entire runway surface is about 1750' long, and it looks like he touched down with only about 500' remaining (about 2 runway centerlines from the end, and adjacent to the smaller building).

Re: Ran out of Gas Thread

[thread diversion] Did something change recently? A few years back, as I recall. Thanks for that. I just looked it up, and here is the CARs. CAR 401.19: 401.19 (1) The holder of a student pilot permit may act as pilot-in-command of an aircraft of the category for which the permit is endorsed if (a) ...

I don't fly gliders. Can someone explain what the instruments that are circled in red, green, and blue are?

No, they knew I tried to get fuel at our destination and it didn't show up. When we stopped in Pinedock I told them it will only be a few minutes. I think some of them had to use the restroom and that took longer than getting fuel.

Re: Another Navajo Landing on a Road

Here's my low fuel story: A few years ago, was PIC on an overnight charter flight in Manitoba. Our overnight destination was one of these uncontrolled and unstaffed places that "had" fuel, but there was no one there to unlock the pumps, or handle the barrels. And no cell service. I had planned to pi...

Re: VIDEO: Cessna 310 Crash after RIGHT Engine Failure (29 Oct 2020)

Looks like the LEFT engine is feathered, and the right engine is running (but appears to be slow because of camera shutter).

Either way, sad ending. RIP.

I think it's the perspective, and early camera position 'swimming'.

Is it just me?
Looks like a cheap camera with a rolling shutter, mounted insecurely in the cockpit, with some software stabilization added afterwards.

That's the fullest rightest aileron I've ever seen. Never seen the yoke go 180 degrees to the right before.

Re: Al Rubin Has Departed the Fix...

I met Al around 2007 when I was at the flight school (Canadian Flyers, I think... not sure if they're still there or not). Al was a memorable character, for sure. One time he fixed a pothole on the runway with a piece of plywood, then just told everyone "don't land on it".

Re: Can I log Pilot in Command time?

PF does not equal PIC.
Seat position does not equal PIC.

Your Ops manual should have this clarified.

When the young 'uns in the future complain about their life, how miserable it is going to school, work, having to "run to the store" for something, getting stuck in traffic on the 401, or having to go to Grandma's birthday party... you can say, Enjoy what you have... Be glad you have a school to go ...

Re: It might be best to get a top up enroute

This guy was 3:20 into his flight when things started going wrong. He already had 1.5 hrs of fuel past his destination on board. Stopping enroute for more fuel when there was no problem or need probably never crossed his mind, nor would it mine. There were many options with the fuel he had on board....

When I graduated from Seneca in 2009, the fees (tuition) was about $3000 per semester (3 semesters/yr, 4 years). Tuition total was about $36,000. Living expenses, books, supplies, ect on top of that. The seneca website states that the tuition for the 4 year FPR program is now about double that ($600...

Could it be a basic ultralight? Anyone can build any flying contraption he dreams of, subject to the basic ultralight restrictions, and register it as such.
