Re: Top Gun: Maverick

Top Gun came out in 1986. Meaning that in the sequel, Mav's been retired from the Navy for 15 years and is now flying 767's full of rubber dog shit out of Hong Kong for Fedex.

Re: Taquan Beaver

There has been a 3rd floatplane down, though this one is a privately operated one who apparently left his gear down landing on the water & was in Prince William Sound - a long way from SE Alaska where the other 2 happened. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/alaska-plane-crash-cessna-a185f-skywagon-crashes...

Re: Otter / Beaver Midair Ketchikan

Maybe have been true back in the inky void of the past, but since as far back as 1990 anyway, if you want to fly into "town" for fuel, groceries, weed, booze, etc. (Ketchikan, Sitka, Petersburg, Juneau, Anchorage, hell, even Cordova) you'll be needing mode 'c'. I haven't flown up there for 12 or so ...

Re: Otter / Beaver Midair Ketchikan

Mountain Air Service's site is locked, but here an archived link to info about the Beaver pilot / MAS's owner: https://web.archive.org/web/20190402230403/https://www.mtnairservice.com/about/ Looks like he's been 'around the block' re: SE AK float time. I've not found any info re: the Taquan pilot. T...

Here's a grim litany of the government / industry / lobby shop nexus that was likely at the root of the problem: https://www.seattletimes.com/business/boeing-aerospace/with-close-industry-ties-faa-safety-chief-pushed-more-delegation-of-oversight-to-boeing/?utm_source=referral&utm_medium=mobile-app&u...

https://theaircurrent.com/aviation-safety/what-is-the-boeing-737-max-maneuvering-characteristics-augmentation-system-mcas-jt610/ Seems like a reasonable explaination of MCAS. Max guys? here is probably the most concise explanation for what the hell the MCAS is for: There is a cert requirement that ...

Re: Cessna 185 vs. Cessna 206

Apparently "your mileage may vary". I flew a T206 amphib for a company for 4 years based in Portland in later 90's. It made it to TBO and never had a cylinder replaced during it's life (factory re-man). It was operated with a GEM engine monitor and had cowl flap extensions. It was, as an aside, a Wi...

Re: Boss Beaver

I flew one for a little while. 1) It was a very early production model so did not have a 'flapper valve' kit to prevent fuel transfer / imbalance. If I recall correctly it was 200 lb. max. imbalance allowed per the POH (or am I thinking of the Caravan? It's been a while). Just taxiing for 10 minutes...

Conversely, if you want to get fired, send an email to HR inquiring where you can find details on the company's whistle-blower policy.

Be that as it may, lets just say it never hurts to have a boost from entering a family business to enable you to make a lot of money become a butt-load of money. Never was inclined to venerate just the making of cash. Always had much more respect for people that leave a mark as well. Elon Musk, Bill...
