Re: Airline AME PayScale
One thing about Air Canada...those guys don't exactly have to bust their butts to make that money. I know, I worked there for years until Aveos ripped away my career. Another thing is Air Canada is union where WestJet is not. At WestJet, you have no union protection and your seniority means nothing....

Re: AME S apprentice...13 years ago.
Keep in mind that job prospects for S guys aren't too good. Not in my neck of the woods anyway. BCIT doesn't even offer the S program anymore so that should give some indication of what the future is like for the trade. Not to mention the Aveos collapse has flooded the market with thousands of exper...

Re: Westjet Tech Ops needs a union!!!!!!!
so, i'm a bit confused. how would a union help? i see what the union has done to/for the ames at Aveos and it doesn't seem like they've really helped the guys. what about Jazz? with the heavy maintenance being looked at and likely going to be contracted, what is their union doing f...

Re: WJ Application Question
Keep in mind FlyingFinn that since the invention of the internet, applying for jobs is a whole new ball game. In the past, companies would post their job ads in newspapers that would not be seen by alot of people so they would maybe get a couple hundred applications for any one job posting. Now, wit...

Re: Good non-aviation job for experienced AME?
I sent Seaspan my resume last Summer...never heard a word back from them. I also applied at CN Rail for "Car Mechanic Apprentice" about 7 months ago. It is basically doing structural repair and maintenance on the rail cars. I figured with my background doing structural repairs on aircraft, they woul...

Re: Good non-aviation job for experienced AME?
Apparently none. I am a licensed AME Structures Technician with 16 years experience. I lost my job when Aveos went belly up in March of 2012. I've been sending out resumes for 11 months to all kinds of companies outside of the aviation industry. To date, I haven't had one single interview. It might ...

Re: Job Search Help!
Maybe you could get a job with a small outfit doing grunt work but to work for Jazz, Westjet or Air Canada I'm pretty sure you have to be 18 or older. Jazz is looking for a part time Aircraft Tower in Calgary and Westjet is looking for people to work as TAC agents (Turn Around Crew) also in Calgary....

MTU Maintenance is hiring in Vancouver for Gas Turbine and Component mechanics right now. Chances are pretty good you would be able to get an apprenticeship there with your M training from BCIT.

Re: Licensed AME jobs in canada after AVEOS callapse
There are lots of other things you can go into with an avionics background. Have you tried places like Coast Mountain Bus, Telus or BC Hydro? They're always looking for people with backgrounds in electronics. Just had a look on Skytrain's careers section, they are looking for a "Vehicle Technician"....

Re: Jobs for apprentice Strucure Techs?
You might have a tough time finding work in structures since Aveos shut down. About 100 experienced structures guys lost their jobs in Vancouver and are also out there looking for work. Also a few hundred more in Winnipeg and Montreal. Although most of them are probably trying to get out of aircraft...

Re: AVEOS LOCKS OUT 3000 WORKERS
DanWEC, Premier Aviation is an excellent example of how an MRO can operate in Canada successfully. The success of Aveos (and the failure) does not depend on the government. It's squarely on the companies involved and the workers. There is plenty of MRO work in Canada.
The only w...

Re: AVEOS LOCKS OUT 3000 WORKERS
I am one of the "lucky" ones who just lost my job. I was one of the ones forced to "choose" Aveos because I didn't have the seniority to hold my position with Air Canada. I can't say it is too much of a surprise though. The writing has been on the wall for a long time but it is still a shock when it...

Re: OPP Aviation job
For what they are asking for in that job description, yes...I feel the pay is too low. However, as SeptRepair has stated...the pension plan is probably pretty sweet and I'm sure that the job security is about as good as it can get in this industry. One thing I have learned as I get older...job secur...
