Re: Canadian Looking for Insights About Career Possibilities Related to ATS.

One of the main advantages/disadvantages of NavCanada is that there's not a whole lot that can be done to be "qualified" as an applicant. Nearly all points of consideration when factoring in an application are the results of the tests and interviews. I wouldn't be too concerned about your resumé. I'...

Re: Contacting ATC to Enter Class B above 12,500'

When in doubt, check your CFS.

The entry for Golden has the PAL as "Vancouver Ctr 132.35 (Kamloops) (may not be receivable on ground)

I have no idea why they'd use the Kamloops frequency as opposed to the Enderby or Cranbrook frequencies, but there's your answer.

Re: VFR Tower Course (ICAO or Canadian)

I'm an FSS with NavCanada who is originally from Portage la Prairie. I would definitely be interested in moving back there, but I've seen the job postings for the tower and to be honest, the incentive just isn't there. I just don't see why anyone would be willing to give up a career with a NavCanada...

Re: IFR Clearance on Taxi

Keep in mind as well that FSS regulations dictate that a clearance must be relayed to the aircraft within 3 minutes of receiving it from the ACC. If we say "clearance when you're ready" and you tell us to standby, we only have 3 minutes before we have to go back to Centre and either cancel or revali...

Re: YWG Recruitment

Be honest, be confident and be relaxed. They're trying to see how you handle pressure and how you'd work with others.

The skill can be tested during training. This is where they test your personality.

What are you going for?

Re: ATC Employement vs Demand trends

They hide it well. I've been trying everything I can to get to Manitoba but the company seems to be having none of it. What do you mean by this? What have you been trying that the company doesn't want to have? Edit: Nevermind, I read your previous posts and realized you're an FSS. I thought you wer...

I don't know much about the actual recruitment process, but I know for a fact that the Pacific region is really hurting for staff right now. That doesn't necessarily mean that they're looking for people, but hopefully they are.

Re: FSS staffing levels

I'm in the same situation. I've been told that I'll most likely be transferred eventually, but I'm not sure where or when. I've had my name in for ATC cross-training since the beginning of time, but they've been telling me that FSS is too shortstaffed to let anyone go for training right now. Also ap...

FSS staffing levels

Hey guys, I've heard mixed messages from various people in the company, and I'm just curious if anyone knows what the FSS staffing level is like. I know training was somewhat suspended due to the Level of Service, and now that they're not closing any sites but people are still moving around, I suspe...

Re: To the YWG guys

Hey guys, Back when I was in radio, I did air traffic reporting for CJOB/Power 97 for a little bit while training IFR at YWG center. It's really up to the helicporter pilot whether they fly or not. On IFR and even marginal VFR days, a lot of time they'll stay on the ground, and just use Barkley, onl...

Re: Who's all waiting for a training offer?

The VFR course in YVR that ends in June was internal. Does anyone know if that actually went through? There was talks of me being on that course, but my manager informed me that due to higher staffing than expected at the towers, they were planning on cancelling the course. Apparently I'm now just ...

Re: YVR ATC Courses

Welcome to the site. I'm in the company already as an FSS. I accepted the cross-training option back when they were trying to "thin the herd" with the LOS review. I did my testing at YVR, and was told I passed the exams and I didn't need to do an interview and that my offer would be arriving shortly...

YVR spring course

Hey guys, I'm wondering if anyone has heard anything aobut the spring VFR course scheduled at YVR. I'm an employee waiting to cross-train, and I haven't heard anything other than "I'd be receiving an offer sometime", but I was really hoping I'd get in on this one. Today I heard rumour that it was ca...

Lucky bastards. I did my testing 6 months ago. I was told I passed and would be given an offer. last I heard from another source, the next course at YVR starts in March. I haven't heard a thing. I'd really love to know something one way or the other, but no one will return my e-mails or give me any ...

Floatyghost: two regions? I thought they recruited and hired regionally now, how are you up for two regions? I'm curious. :) Haha, I'm already in the company. Cross-training, so I guess I have some perks. I've been told that I've passed my interview and testing. Medical and background isn't an issu...

I'm one of the dozen or so FSS who chose the ATC cross-training option. Seniority transfer from FSS to ATC

Hey guys, So, I'm (hopefully) going to be cross-training for VFR this spring. I've been an FSS for a few years now, and I've been looking over both contracts but I haven't been able to find any details as far as transfer of seniority is concerned. I've heard that I keep my initial NCTI graduation da...

wow. sounds rough. I'm still hoping for VFR eventually. Don't think I'll take IFR. Tried that before, don't want to risk it again. As far as I know, YVR, YWG and YYZ are still offering VFR training. Sounds like it's a little behind, thanks to the new simulators...

Congradulations! It looks like you did well. Hopefully we get some of those next year. Anyone have any idea what this means for the FSS salary increase? 1%+1%+1%+1.5%=4.5% over a year and a half, which averages to a 3% increase a year. Is that what we can expect in May? How long does it usualy take ...

No, he's definitely not EOCO, as he doesn't even have one year in with the company yet. I realize that VFR is a very difficult course, and nothing's guaranteed. I'm hoping with my FSS experience, my IFR training experience, my flying experience and the fact that I've spent countless hours in towers ...

Re: FSS to VFR overstaffing offers

Well, it's been a few weeks since my phone call, and still nothing. I've already heard of a few people requesting and accepting cross-training for IFR. One of them is at the Center right now for interivews. All expenses paid trip, plus 1.5 time. Must be nice :p. I specified VFR, as I've grown fond o...
