Dispatchers - Do FDOPS/FDMET exams expire?
Hi There, I'm a pilot at a Canadian Airline who's had to take a LoA due to medical reasons. In my time off I'm hoping to use my time in a meaningful way and am currently looking into flight dispatch opportunities. I have never had a dispatching job and wrote my FDOPS and FDMET dispatch exams about 1...

By the sounds of things there will likely be no more DECs hired. From here on in only FO positions.

Re: Encore's Pay and Work Conditions
I have been at Encore for the past few months and overall I enjoy it here. We are working 20 days per month as the month with an inefficient schedule. Improving this seems to be a big priority with the company and management tells us this will improve throughout 2014. Right now there are 9 aircraft ...

Re: WJ Mainline Interviews
YYZ is opening in June. YYZ - YQT and YQT - YWG were officially announced as Encore route from the Toronto base.
A decent list of people at Encore now who want to move to YYZ as soon as possible. There will be no trouble staffing the YYZ base initially.
There are no more DECs being hired.

Not trying to sound... well I don't know, but this sounds like anybody who's got lots of 705 PIC time on several types or so is really put in a bad spot here. Looks next to impossible to go to mainline direct. I never got a mention for direct entry captain and now seem way too over qualified for a ...

Application during overseas rotations
Hi there, Just curious what people normally do when they are hoping for a call back and are often doing long overseas rotations where it is difficult to be contacted by phone. I have updated my cover letter by adding an "additional attachment" to the job site mentioning this and requested all corres...

Pilots with second jobs
Hey guys,
Seems like with the current operator I'm working for I have a of down time these days.
Just wondering what other pilots have done as second jobs/careers that works around aviation?

Quick question on languages.
Do they test your level of fluency on second languages other than French?
I speak Spanish and noted it on my application. Just wondering if I can expect to be tested on it.

Re: Would you have landed?
Would I have landed? Unless I was somehow about to run out of fuel, then no. I really don't have an issue with burning 700L of someone else's fuel holding for Wx or diverting to another airport. Why would I? It's not my dime. As far as the Spanish goes I myself was surprised to find that in a lot of...

Re: Wake turbulence avoidance and what is up with B757
I once hit 777 wake in a DHC-6 - it had departed from an intersecting runway slightly earlier, with the wake's tendency to descend and move outward and the headwind/crosswind combined it put it on-top of us at about 400 ft on T/O. We ended up about 50-60 degrees of bank at our worst and had full con...

Re: Writing my A's....need help!!!!
I wrote these just a few weeks ago. They're easier than I expected. About the same level as IATRA if you've done it. I used self study, aerocourse book, study and reference guide. Then Just sit down and do some serious reading/practice as many questions as you can in aerocourse. All in all just do s...

All these ideas seem pretty solid to me. I am learning the guitar, a language, and I do several artistic projects. All three are massive commitments that each on there own take hundreds or thousands of hours of time. the idea behind rosetta stone is different and imo a better way of learning a langu...

- Ditch the long complicated flight planning process for flights that are not going to use up all of your gas. If you are going ~60min away and have 2.5hrs of fuel on board, do I need to know down to the liter how much fuel was burned? OTH if I am going ~60min away and want to return if possible wi...

Interesting article. I liked the issues highlighted but agree with the last post. Didn`t seem to agree with itself on a solution. Obviously applying specifically to the USA, but foreshadowing what could be to come in Canada. I only pray it never gets to that.

Re: Twin Otter question
Just to add what was said... Why is that tail so big in the first place? Well to simplify it... when air acts against either side of the tail due to some form of yaw the aircraft tends to yaw about the vertical axis the opposite way, giving stability in forward flight. Think about how the floats add...

Working in Spain
I am wondering if anyone has any information on a Canadian working/living in Spain?
I have a FAA and Canadian CPL, soon to the ATPL. My citizenship is Canadian.
Any information at all would be appreciated.

Re: Hard Decision
Converting your license from American to Canadian or Canadian to American is relatively easy. Just a couple written tests, around 20 questions or so. Shouldn't cost you must more than a bit of time, some study material and exam fees. This is for the basic CPL/MIFR Beware some things can't be convert...
